Vader strides into the medical observation room and looks through the window to see Luke. The boy is still unconscious but was no longer surrounded by doctors and nurses. The head doctor is still in the room, seemingly checking the equipment and finishing a few tests. Vader sees what looks like a sigh of relief from the doctor as they walk to the door that connects to the room he is currently in. The door swishes open and the doctor seems startled at first by the presence in the room, obviously not expecting someone else there.
"Lord Vader, I was not expecting you back so soon," the doctor says, regaining their composure.
"What news do you have about his medical condition?"
"He is stable, he will make the best recovery possible considering everything."
"Do you have any clue as to when he will wake?"
"No, my lord. He may wake in a couple of hours at the least, but there is no certainty to that. He may be unconscious for months, even worse years. We do not know."
"Very well."
"You may enter the room with him if you please, Lord Vader. All of our tests that we need to be in there for have concluded. Unless of course, we need to get a sample or run another scan to double-check on something."
"Unless he is in need of immediate medical attention, only you are permitted to enter this room while I am in there. Understood?"
"Yes, Lord Vader."
Vader enters the room and sees the unconscious form of his son laying on the medical bed, without the separation of the glass of the observation room. His son looks so tiny and fragile. Obviously, his stature is from the boy's mother, but in looks, he is almost the spitting image of Vader's younger self, before the horrible suit he is now trapped in. He finds the chair intended for guests and sits in it next to his son.
What was Vader going to do now, what could he do? The words of Obi-wan still plague his thoughts. Could he let his son leave? He has just gotten him, he wants to get to know the boy properly. He wants to know about his son's passions, interests, and the things the boy enjoys. Could Vader just give that up? No, he couldn't, but he has to. He has to, in order to save his son. Gently, he brushes a clump of hair out of Luke's face. It was then he registers that the boy is shifting and mumbling. Vader is unsure of what precisely his child is going through right now, it could be a nightmare, events, and scenarios that are not real. It could be a memory, a horrible memory from the looks of it. It could even be a vision granted to Luke by the Force. Vader has no way of knowing for sure right now, too afraid to look into the boy's mind.
Luke is alone in the strange place now, The World Between Worlds. He walks around unsure of what to do in this place until he wakes, then he falls. Landing on the sands of Tatooine, he looks up and sees a blue figure in front of him.
Hello, Luke.
"Ben! What are we doing here," Luke exclaims curiously.
Before you wake, there is something that you must see. I am not able to stay with you long but I can tell you this. I can guarantee you will see the past in this vision, you may even see the future. Be prepared, Luke. There is much you don't know, and there will be many questions that people may not be able to answer just yet. Be patient.
With that the ghost fades away, leaving Luke to the desert sands. A gentle wind starts to pick up around him, picking up speed and causing the sand to surround him. The sand picks up so much that he can't see. As fast as the sand picked up it drops again, he looks around to gather his bearings, a small shop that appears to be somewhere on Tatooine.
"Are you an Angel?"
Luke turns to the voice and sees a young boy.
"A what?"
Luke then sees a young girl responding to the boy's question.
"An angel. I hear deep space pilots talk about them. They're the most beautiful creatures in the universe. I think they live on the moons of Iego."
The girl chuckles at this and responds, "You're a funny little boy. How do you know so much?"
The boy looks down and messes with the thing he is holding in his hands. "I listen to all the traders and star pilots that come through here. I'm a pilot, you know, and I'm going to fly away from this place someday."
"You're a pilot."
"Yep. All my life."
"How long have you been here?"
"Since I was very little. I think three. My mom and I were sold to Gradulla the Hutt, but she lost us betting on the Podraces."
"You're a slave?"
"I'm a person and my name is Anakin."
Luke startles in surprise, this boy's name was Anakin. Was this his father? The Force whispers to him, yes.
"I'm sorry," the girl speaks again causing Luke to pay attention to what is happening again. "I don't fully understand. This place is strange to me."
The scene shifts in front of Luke causing him to need to regather himself once more. He's on another planet now, one he is unfamiliar with. It is night and he is surrounded by people, a funeral pyre in the center of the group. He comprehends that a lot of the people in this group are Jedi.
"What will happen to me now?"
Luke turns and sees the child version of his father.
"The council have granted me permission to train you. You will be a Jedi, I promise," another older voice rings out.
The scene shifts again, and now Luke is in a sprawling field. He sees the young girl from before however, she is older now probably a young adult. There is also a young male next to her that appears to be wearing more traditional Jedi robes, excluding the darker color tones.
"I don't know." The young woman's voice rings out.
"Sure you do. You just don't want to tell me." The Jedi says.
"You gonna use one of your Jedi mind tricks on me?"
"No, they only work on the weak-minded."
"All right. I was 12. We were both in the Legislative Youth Program. His name was Palo. He was a few years older than me." Then in a somewhat teasing manner, she adds, "Very cute. Dark, curly hair. Dreamy eye."
"All right, I get the picture," the Jedi says looking away. "Whatever happened to him?"
"I went into public service; he went on to become an artist."
"Maybe he was the smart one."
"You really don't like politicians, do you?"
"I like a few, but I'm not exactly sure about one of them."
Luke looks on as the two in front of him continue to talk. Why was he being shown this? Then he realizes perhaps this woman is his mother and the Jedi sitting next to her is his Father. He gets the answer to that fast. Yes, these were his parents. But why was he being shown these things? He forces himself to break out of his thoughts and pay attention to the events before him.
"You're making fun of me," the young woman, his mother, says.
"No. No, I'd be much too frightened to tease a senator."
Everything shifts again now, he appears to be back on Tatooine.
