Chapter 5
"Mmmmmm! Mmm! Oh that was so yummy! Is there any more?" A fire crackled and everybody was sitting around it eating. "I'm afraid there's none left young one."
"Oh that's ok!" Kyaru said. She was sitting in a hut with the people she had met that day and they had taken her to this woman named Kaede. It seemed she was a priestess. Kyaru remembered her mother talking of priestess' where her father lived a long time ago. But her memory was vague about the information she got. They were all eating in silence. Kyaru couldn't take it any more and finally excused herself to go outside to get some fresh air. She needed it. She wanted some time alone to relax and rethink what happened that afternoon, and to think of a way to get back home.
"So Kaede...do you have any idea who she is?" Sango turned to her and asked.
"Unfortunately no. I haven't seen any one that dresses like her recently or ever before excluding Kagome of course."
"Hey! Don't you notice that she looks so familiar? Yet she looks not-so familiar as well. There's obviously something about her we don't know." Inu- Yasha stated simply.
"Well we won't know anything about her until we ask." Kaede told him.
" I already asked," He rolled his eyes thinking of what she said, "All she said was that her life was screwed and stuff about her dad dying."
"Oh god that must be terrible! Did you say anything to comfort her?" Kagome asked him. "Uh...no. Was I supposed to?" He asked.
"Yes...yes you were! Oh no wonder she's outside by herself. Probably crying. I'm going to go and see how she is."
"What?! No you should leave her alone. Besides we'll be leaving soon now that you've finally come back!"
"But...what about the girl?"
"Well it's not like she can come with us! She can't do anything to help or probably even protect herself. She'd be a burden on us all so we'll leave her here and come back for the shard later."
"My, that's a harsh thing to say about her Inu-Yasha." Miroku interrupted.
"Well...I'll still go see if she's ok." Kagome said. She got up and slid the door open to find Kyaru leaning on it then fall down.
' Well...I have no idea what I'm going to do or how I'm going to get back home. Maybe I can stay here for awhile with these people to see maybe if they could help me find my way home.' Kyaru was deep in thought. A chill wind blew right at that moment snapping Kyaru away from her thoughts. She decided to go back in. But as she was nearing the hut she could hear them talking about her inside. So she decided to listen. She bent down and leaned against the sliding door which was opened a crack.
"Well it's not like she can come with us! She can't do anything to help or probably even protect herself. She'd be a burden on us all so we'll leave her here and come back for the shard later."
"My, that's a harsh thing to say about her Inu-Yasha." Miroku interrupted.
Kyaru was surprised at what she heard 'I was starting to think that dog-boy Inu-Yasha was a nice guy. But all he wants is the diamond from my necklace. I still don't get why it's so important to him.' Kyaru was again lost in thought and when the door suddenly slid open she fell through.
"Ow....that hurt...ow." Kyaru was face down on the hardwood floor. Thinking of how she was in pain trying not to shout out but said calmly again, "Ow...that hurt."
"Oh god! Are you ok? I'm sorry I didn't know you were there....listening...." Kagome trailed off and turned to look at Inu-Yasha. Who was completely clueless and shrugged. Kyaru all of a sudden jumped to her feet. "Oh that's ok! Uh...I heard you guys are...traveling?" Everybody looked at each other hoping that she wouldn't ask to come along. She'd only get a disappointing answer.
"Yeah...we are and sorry but you can't come." Inu-Yasha had his arms crossed and looked her straight in the eye.
"Oh...well...Why not? I heard what you said earlier. How I can't protect myself. Well I've been taking lessons in" Here Kyaru trailed off and started looking everywhere and starting just to say gibberish when she all of a sudden started talking normally again, "And well I'd like to find a way home and if I travel with you I might find a way. And probably never come back. Please let me come with you. I'd rather walk many miles in a day than stay cooped up in a hut doing nothing."
"Well it's fine with me if she comes!" Miroku chimed in. Sango rolled her eyes then hit him on the head. "I wouldn't mind another girl either." She said looking around. "Yeah I wouldn't mind!" Shippo said smiling.
There was a moment's silence when Kagome turned around and said, "Inu- Yasha?"
He sighed and was quiet for a minute. "Fine. She can come if it'll make you happy."
"Oh Thank you so much! I'll never forget this! Even when I get back home I won't forget this favor you're doing me!" Kyaru said and ran to him and hugged Inu-Yasha with all her might. He was surprised at this sudden emotional outburst. He wanted to tell her to get off and he didn't want to hug her back. But something told he should...just in case she'll go back and he'd never see her again.
The next morning
"Well Kaede we're off. See you in a few days!" Kagome said and IY and company plus their new member Kyaru were off in search of another shikon shard.
When it was nightfall Kyaru remembered the little digital diary she kept with her. She opened the top of the compact rectangle and started to type.
Dear Starie, The last two days have been the most exiting ever. I don't know where to begin...
