Hi everybody! Okay, I've recently been obsessed the Dark Jewels Trilogy, and this thing just popped into my head as I was supposed to be doing my summer homework for English. Heheh…(sweatdrop) Ahem, anyways I'd just like to point out that nothing of the DJT belongs to me. It all belongs to the high and mighty Anne Bishop. I do own the original character in here, but that's it. So, enjoy!

The voices came from far away. They were the only sign she had that she still lived, that she existed in the physical world. She had no idea why she was still alive. She didn't know why she still had the shelter of her Jewels. She only knew the voices were real, and they would soon call her back into the waking world. She didn't want to go. She wanted to stay here, where she felt nothing, where she was numb. Numb against the pain, the fear. Where she found a tiny shred of peace. But the voices pulled at her, urged her from her haven.

She climbed slowly up to the waking world. She expected pain, but there was none. The voices became louder, and she recognized the other slaves, the others who shared her dismal existence. But now she sensed something different. Something was…wrong somehow. She pushed at the cobwebs around her mind. Her eyes opened, but it was of little use. The room was almost pitch black, the tiny windows shutting out the feeble moonlight outside. She sat up, leaning against the wall. The voices still flowed and ebbed around her, sometimes spiking as someone cried out in fear or pain.

She turned inward again, searching for what triggered the sense of wrongness. Something had broken inside her, something had snapped under the pressure. Her senses sharpened as she examined herself. Something sweet and deadly cold flowed through her. Her mind cleared and all her emotions were washed away by the icy rage except desire. For the first time in her life, she wanted not to heal, not to build, but to destroy.

She wanted to kill. This knowledge swept through and she bared her teeth in a smile. Something inside howled, relishing its release, searching for blood. Her head tilted back and she started to laugh. She laughed while the icy rage roared for blood to soothe it. The other slaves, those awake to hear it, shrank back in fear as her laughter rose into the hot, stale summer air.

Well, I hoped you all liked that! Please read and review! Unfortunately, as this was a completely spur-of-the-moment thing, I cannot honestly say that I know where this is going. I don't even know the name of the main character or anything. So please don't be too mad if it just disintegrates…(cough) So, um, yeah, please leave comments!

PS. Okay I'm getting really upset at ffn.n. I can't indent on the paragraphs for some reason, so please ignore that. If someone knows how to fix it, please enlighten me. Oh, and how to get asterisks, too.
