Sora and Tidus walked home in silence. The blonde sniffled once in a while but said nothing.
[I'm sorry, Tidus. I know what it's like to have an unrequited crush.]
The brunette walked his friend all the way home. He hugged Tidus and wiped more tears from his cheeks.
"Tomorrow...when we go back to the island...will you give me a piggyback ride?" Tidus asked softly.
Sora smiled. "Sure."
The younger teen smiled back. "Thanks. 'Night Sora."
"G'night Tidus."
Tidus walked off and tip-toed around the back of his house. Sora walked to his house and peeked in the window. His mother was still fast asleep on the couch. The brunette smiled and walked around back. He climbed up to his room, stripped down, and snuggled into bed.
----------------------
Riku couldn't help but feel jealous as he watched Sora walk down the street, Tidus on his back.
[Does this mean Tidus has a crush on Sora now?? If so...he rebounds quickly...]
Sora, Tidus, Selphie, Wakka, and Kairi were off to Destiny Island for a breakfast picnic. Riku was stuck cleaning the rest of the garage. He was still grounded. Sora offered to help but the older teen didn't want his friend's day to be ruined so he told him to go. After a lot of "are you sure?"s Sora finally (almost reluctantly) left. Now he was walking down the street with Tidus attached to him.
*************
Sora looked over at Wakka, who was looking very forlorn. Tidus was his usual smiley self but he hadn't hugged or jumped on the redhead once. Sora on the other hand had been hugged three times and jumped on twice (he accidentally dropped Tidus the first time).
"Don't you ever walk, Tidus?" Selphie teased.
"Not if I can help it." The blonde laughed.
Sora chuckled. "Are we pairing up again?"
Kairi shook her head. "No. We may have different things to do today."
"Yeah. You're right."
Once they reached the water everyone readied their rowboats and headed for Destiny Island. Kairi had their picnic basket of breakfast with her. Wakka had brought the blanket.
"Chappu is probably going to come out to the island later." Wakka said. "Last night's storm made for some good surfing..."
"That means the terrible threes will be coming too." Selphie sighed. "They all have a crush on Chappu."
Wakka laughed. "Chappu is seventeen and your sisters are... what?"
"Twelve, eleven, and nine."
The redhead laughed again. "And they're the only girls that have crushes on my brother."
The group laughed.
"Poor Chappu." Kairi said.
"What're their names again?" Tidus asked.
Selphie sighed. "Don't you remember anything?"
"Nope!" The blonde teased with a grin.
"Téa, Sazuka, and Miki."
"Oh yeah. Téa kissed me last week..." Tidus murmured.
"She what?" Wakka and Selphie asked in unison.
The teen's cheeks turned red. "Just on the cheek. I got your guys' cat out of a tree."
"Awww!" The girl squealed. "Tidus has a girlfriend!! Tidus and Téa sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g!"
"Selphie!" Tidus frowned. "I didn't even remember her name! Téa is not my girlfriend!! Yeesh."
"Yet..." Selphie grinned.
Sora sighed and shook his head. The teens made it through the waves with no problem and tied their boats up. Wakka spread the blanket out and the teens sat down to eat. They each brought their own respective breakfasts. Sora felt a little bad that he wasn't having breakfast with his mother but she encouraged him to go. So he went...and brought his fruit salad with him.
"Any paopu in there?" Kairi teased, stealing a grape from the brunette's container.
Sora laughed softly and his cheeks turned pink. "No. Sorry."
"Sora and Kairi sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g!" Selphie and Tidus sang.
Kairi turned bright red and pretended to be enraptured by her peaches and oatmeal. Sora shot his friends a dirty look and they returned to their meals as well.
-------------
Chappu and Selphie's sisters rowed up in Chappu's boat just as the group was cleaning up the remains of their breakfast.
"Lookit those waves little brother." Chappu grinned at Wakka and set his surfboard on the beach.
"Mom says you have to watch me!" Miki announced.
"Goody gumdrops." Selphie muttered.
"Hi Tidus." Téa smiled.
"Hi Téa."
"C'mon Selphie! I want to go seashell hunting!" Miki grabbed onto her older sister's hand, dragging her off.
"Wait up!" Sazuka and Kairi called in unison, following the two girls.
Chappu and his surfboard were already out on the water. Téa spread out a beach towel and sat on it to watch. Wakka sat cross-legged in the sand. He smiled at Tidus and patted his lap, inviting the blonde to sit down.
"No thanks. I'm going to Paopu Island."
"Ah. You wanna duel, ya!?" Wakka grinned.
"Nah."
The redhead's excitement faded and Tidus walked off.
"Is he mad at me?" Wakka asked.
"I...don't know." Sora replied.
Sora watched Tidus walking off, head hung.
[I wish you were here Riku. You'd know exactly what to do.]
The brunette sighed and plopped down in the sand beside Wakka. The older boy didn't even chuckle when Chappu wiped out.
--------------------
By one o'clock Wakka, Sora, Tidus, Selphie, and Téa were the only ones left on the island. Sazuka and Miki bored easily and went home with Chappu. Kairi had to help her mother clean out the attic so she was gone too.
"Boring!" Téa whined. "C'mon Tidus! Let's go swimming!"
"Think I forgot something on Paopu Island. Go ahead without me." The blonde jogged off.
"Something's bothering him. I'm going to go talk to him."
Sora wanted to tell Wakka not to go, but he didn't want to expose Tidus' secret. So the teen just sighed and watched his friend walk off.
" Tidus is so cute." Téa sighed.
Selphie giggled. "C'mon Téa. You 'n' me will go for a swim. Coming Sora?"
"Nah. I just want to sit here and do nothing."
"Lazy." Selphie teased.
"Yup." The brunette chuckled.
Sora watched Selphie and Téa splash each other for a while. He looked over at Paopu Island but couldn't see Wakka or Tidus. He sighed, kind of worried. They had been gone a while.
[Maybe Tidus finally told Wakka he had a crush on him and he killed him and now he's burying Tidus under the paopu tree...] The brunette shook his head. [Get a grip, Sora. Mom was right. I do have an overactive imagination. Still...they could be fighting. I should go check on them...]
Sora stood and made his way to Paopu Island. He was nearly across the bridge when his eyes widened.
[Oh crap. I can't run off. They'll see me and I'll ruin the moment.]
The brunette dove (as silently as possible) into the nearest bush. He felt like a voyeur. Wakka and Tidus were sitting at the base of the paopu tree feeding each other pieces of the star-shaped fruit. Once they had finished Wakka twisted the stem into a heart and gave it to Tidus.
"Now we'll always be together..." The redhead smiled.
Sora blushed. [I really shouldn't be watching this...but it's so cute...]
Even though neither teen said anything they leaned in close. Tidus turned bright red and shied away. Wakka smiled reassuringly at the blonde and scooted closer. The redhead reached out and gently stroked Tidus' cheek with his thumb. Still bright red the blonde leaned in and pressed his lips to Wakka's. The kiss was very chaste but both teens enjoyed it immensely.
"Your lips taste like paopu." Tidus smiled, licking his lips.
Wakka chuckled. "So do yours. Hey...Tidus?"
"Yeah?"
"Can...we kiss again?"
"Sure..."
Wakka and Tidus' lips met once more. Sora was staring up at the sky so he wasn't quite sure where Téa had come from.
"EWWWW!" She shrieked. "I'm telling!!"
