Chapter 2
As you already know my name is Kai, my last name Hiwatari. I was born in what is now called Russia, the eldest son of a lord Sokoll, a man famous for hawking, his drink and his women. He was a course man, with vulgar words to both me and my mother; he freely beat us both in the name of his god, a god which I freely despised with all my heart. My mother, a sharp woman of whom was no better than my father was also one of the most practical women I have known. She was also ready with a leather strap to strike me or my siblings on her own whim or to feed to dogs that she loved more than any of her children.
I was the heir to lands that were dry and barren at its best. Our family so poor that we were scarcely better off than the peasants who surrounded our castle, if you could call it that compared to those in the western lands of Europe. By far I was the outsider of my family; many times in my then fourteen years of age I had been confronted by members of family of whom thought I was not worthy of the lands I was to have; with my uncanny ability to know where danger was and my capability to over power it no matter how skilled it was.
I was the devil's child.
Of course irony must ensue that I did become a symbol of evil later on in my… life as you may call it. How amusing.
When I turned to the age of sixteen - a man for four years now - I was 'kidnapped' to put it most frankly. Stolen whilst I was out riding on my mount, a handsome white stallion of which I had tamed myself.
Before my aforementioned 'kidnapping' I had not believed in my father's church, I had often scorned him and his overly religious ways. I was the rebel, a stark reminder to them all that I was different.
I was what my coven dared not dream of.
Upon my doomsday I was out upon my mount. At that moment I was a frail creature despite my potential as a blood drinker. My father had arranged a marriage for me. A beautiful girl, with honeyed hair and light blue eyes; she was innocent and the complete opposite of myself. There were often times where I would hold her gently, unsure as to if I was hurting her or not. She was beautiful, a perfect wife, thoughtful, beautiful and a hard worker. Submissive; as the word is put to her I find it fits quite well with her. However, upon that day of riding I had chosen to take her with me, my reason was simple; I had come to enjoy her presence despite the fact that she was terrified of me. Would still flinch at my touch.
Upon returning from this ride - of which has most unfortunately succumbed to nothing at all, we did not commune with each other upon the entire journey, I felt an overwhelming sense of content. Oh how foolish I was. I was never to return to the castle alive, we were ambushed by wraith like creatures. Swathed in luxurious black velvet cloaks the rode upon great black monsters of horses. At the time I had my sword, they were a threat. I could sense it.
Eva, my fiancée, had begun to cry, her beautiful pink cheeks were marred with tears as she wept. I felt something inside me. I was angry; she was the one thing that I had grown most fond of for despite her being four years younger than me - a child by this era's standards - and I did love her. Her tears formed the abovementioned anger and rage that formed inside me. I raised my blade and stepped off my stallion.
My crimson eyes were narrowed in a most hateful way; it was the first time of many times where I had prepared to murder a mass of people in the fact of my own selfish emotions.
I killed them all.
My Eva began to sob once more as I told her to leave for the castle, the last time I was alive as I saw what was mine ride off upon my order. I was glad she was safe as I began to hide the cold bodies of those I had needlessly killed. It was not hard. Few wandered out of the village walls anyway and even fewer do go into woods that are rumoured to be haunted by Satan himself.
Upon the last body that needed to be hidden I was once more ambushed by yet more of these cloaked creatures. A silent laugh rippling softly like silk between them; their once flawless material now marred by the stench and look of blood that is so disturbing to mortal eyes and noses. I recoiled, raising my sword once again as to strike them; my hand was firm, not shaking as it has never done in all my mortal and immortal life.
"Who are you?" My voice was clear, solid yet to them it must have sounded weak, pathetic even. "Inform me of your business!"
For to me then it seemed like an eternity for them to answer. Maybe it was, however I have no wish to go into the philosophies of this remark.
At last one chose to reveal himself to me. Removing the heavy black swath of cloth which formed his hood and raised his head. I felt my body recoil at the blood stained skin that I had created with my own sword.
"You are the eldest son of Sokoll?"
I nodded, having nothing else to say. He was correct and I confirmed him.
He smirked, his smoky lavender hair ruffled most handsomely upon fine features. Matching eyes stared at me with an expression I was repulsed by considerably.
"Lord Hiwatari wishes to speak with you. He has found you most… interesting these past sixteen years." His voice, although pleasant to the ear disturbed me greatly. I disliked idea that a man I had not heard of had known of me all my life.
"If the man has found me interesting then he would do well to come to me not I to him."
My mortal memories can not remember what happened to me next, if not for a few blurred visions of the monstrous creature I was talking to coming forward.
All was black.
