part one

He almost convinced me. That stupid old man almost convinced me.

Draco runs fiercely from the castle beside Snape, clutching his wand, preparing to use it if necessary. He couldn't use it when it really counted, though, could he? He was a fool. Dumbledore's kind words had nearly broken his resolve, and the Dark Lord might kill him for failing.

But Snape had done it. One shouted "Avada Kedavra" and green light, then nothing but "hurry up, boy, come ON!" and running. Snape always protected Draco; he had been like a father to him.

Draco turned to thank his savior.

part two

It was too easy.

Who knew he would crumple under such an ordinary spell? He had seemed invincible. Certainly when he attended school under Dumbledore he'd felt that way, and later, in his castle again, the man seemed to glow from within.

Then "Avada Kedavra." Then nothing. Draco ran beside me in a cold sweat; the failure. When he turned to thank me his eyes widened. I cursed as the Polyjuice made my features melt. Grasping my wand in one silvery hand, I said the killing curse again and prayed the binding spell on the unconscious Snape was still working.
