Sesshomaru watched the laughing little girl as she placed some flowers on Jakens head. The little toad youkai squaked at her to stop being so foolish. She only laughed some more and picked more flowers, making another wreath.looked
Sesshomaru's heart gave an odd little twitch when she over at him and smiled at him. That smile of innocence, trust and open adoration. He felt like a cad. How could she simply sit there, happy to be around a demon. A monster that had killed hundreds of demons and humans. How could she?
She was his ward, his human, his life. Unlike all the rest of her kind she was pure and untainted by the human vices and failings of greed, lust, envy. sloth, selfishness and so much more. She hardly even smelled like her kind. Her body gave off a pleasing smell combination of cherry blossoms and sunshine. She also smelled a bit like himself, due to all the nights she had spent curled up at his side, surrounded by his white fur pelt and warmth. She loved him unconditionally and he found that fascinating. The simple fact that she accepted him as he was, regardless of the difference between human and demon, mortal and immortal, good and bad, pure and sullied, adult and child. That love shone so brightly in her eyes everytime she looked at him.
A low growl escaped his throught. Did she not understand that he could kill her at any moment, snuff out her innocent life forever? But he knew he wouldn't. She loved him. She trusted him. None had ever before and he doubted that any ever would. He was too much of a monster. He killed. It was a fact of life.
He wanted to keep her around forever so she could always love him. He wanted to always stay pure and innocent and only smile at him, but he knew it was impossible. She was human. Her body was frail, it was not built for forever, however much he wanted that. Tensiega could only ressurect her from death. It coud not keep her from aging, and growing old.
She would be a woman soon. In a few years she would grow taller and grow more curves. Then she would begin her courses, and would find a husband. She would have children, and age, and die, and he could not stop her. Immortality was meant for demons, not humans.
" Sesshomaru-sama, will you forget me when I die?"
" Don't be foolish..."
Yes, she would die. But not in his heart. He would immortalize her in his memory. His first daughter would bear her name. He would watch over her descendants, protect them. Just so he could always be near her in some small way. When they got to his castle he would have paintings made of her so that after her death he could look at her and remember her smile and love for him. She would not die...
She ran up to him, the bright yellow wreath of flowers held up to him in offering. Unlike Jaken she would never force them on him. She respected that he was a lord. A demon lord.
" For you Sesshomaru-sama!" She said brightly, waiting for him to either accept or decline his gift. He knelt down and took them from her. Then he placed them on her head and gave her a small smile. A smile none but her knew about.
" They look better on you, Rin." He said to her in a whisper, to make sure his ever-faithful retainer did not hear. He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and placed a clawed hand on her head in affection. She giggled.
" Sesshomaru-sama, Rin has a secret to tell you!" She moved closer to him and whispered quickly. " Aishiteru, Sesshomaru-sama!"
Then she ran off. His heart cracked.
