Through a Fractured Looking Glass
"Syaoran-kun" Fai's voice rang, "We're ready to go."
"I'll be right there Fai-san" Syaoran called back as he took one last glance at the world of Oto. The sun was setting and its fading light splashed the sky in radiant hues of reds, oranges and yellows.
"It's really beautiful isn't it Syaoran-kun?" Sakura said as she walked up to him and smiled.
"Yes, Hime-sama, it is." Syaoran said as he smiled back at her. Turning back to the setting sun he added. "Once we get your memories back I'm sure you'll remember many more evenings like this." Sakura didn't reply. Instead she continued to gaze out into the horizon as if trying to memorize the scene.
"Hey kid, the Manju bun is ready to take us now so let's hurry up and leave!" Kurogane called.
"Coming!"
The space between worlds is a strange place. It is a place that leads to everywhere and nowhere. It can take you to a world where your greatest fantasies can come true and to a world filled with nothing but nightmares. The inky blackness of this space between dimensions is the very fabric that makes up the barriers and separates the worlds. Sometimes though, the black fabric thins in certain places, allowing for an inter-dimensional traveler to peer into another reality.
Light glimmered, piercing through the black space, drawing Syaoran to it.
"What's this?" he wondered aloud. Sakura floated towards him followed closely by Fai and Kurogane.
"It's a window to another world." Faiexplained peering through the hole next to Syaoran. Syaoran, with his curiosity piqued up, peered in for a closer look.
"Go Syaoran!" Sakura cheered in the stands. It was a crisp fall day with a cloudless sapphire sky; perfect for a soccer game. Out on the field Syaoran was weaving in and out of the opposing team players.
"Yamazaki-kun! Watch my left!" He yelled as he made a sharp pass to his teammate. Yamazaki received the ball from and made a quick shot at the net, scoring the winning goal just as the second half of the game ended.
"Nice shot." Syaoran said as he joined the rest of the team and spectatorsin congratulating Yamazaki.
Yamazaki smiled, "Rather you should be congratulating Syaoran for that amazing pass. Did you see how straight the ball went?"
"Oh no, not at all!" Syaoran said vigorously shaking his head, "You scored the winning goal."
"Syaoran's just being modest." Sakura said as she walked up to Syaoran and hugged him.
"Did you know…"Yamazaki began
"Don't listen to him. Whatever he says is a lie!" Chiharu cut in, playfully punching him in the arm while everyone else laughed at the pair's antics.
"They look happy don't they…" Syaoran turned to look at Sakura who watched the scene with a distant look in her emerald eyes. "We look so happy…" her voice began to fade. "I remember…Syaoran…I want…" She collapsed and Syaoran nimbly caught her.
"The price must be paid." Yuko's voice resounded in his ears. He knew she would never be the same in the end, that they would never be the same. Yet somewhere, deep in his heart, a small ray of hope shone brightly. Syaoran smiled gently. Glancing back once more at the soccer field, he wiped away the tears that threatened to slidedown his cheeks.
"One day we'll be happy too. Sakura."
