Another sunset, another number of crows to come to my field, eat my food and laugh at me as they rest themselves on my shoulders. The wooden pole up my back was starting to get to me. I mean I had been here since I could remember but today it just felt like it was really jabbing something awful. The height of being on this pole was something to ponder on. If I could ponder that is; which I couldn't.
What I wouldn't give to be on the ground, to walk, if I could walk, alongside the fence, to see where these roads lead. A crow came down and landed on my shoulder. These days I didn't even try to scare it away, I knew it was useless. Sighing, I hung my head; today was just another day. Just like the one before that. And tomorrow would bring nothing but the same.
Here I was, constantly alone, being laughed at, and deep down wishing I could have what I've always wanted and would never receive.
"Now which way do we go?"
Now I was hearing things, no one ever came this way, at least no one ever had. I lifted my head and saw her. A girl in a blue and white dress with a basket in her hands and a dog by her side that was barking in my direction. I decided to help her, I pointed to the right, "Pardon me, that way is a very nice way."
There was something different about her, something that made me think that the coming days would be different, that I would be different. I suddenly had a feeling that this girl would help me get what I had yearned for so long. I had hope, something that I never had before.
