A/N: I feel that this poem needs explanation. I wrote this for my English class when I was in 6th grade (wow, that was 8 years ago!). The assignment was to pick out phrases and words from the book we had just read (Tracker by Gary Paulsen) and put them together into a poem.

Disclaimer: The words of this poem belong to Gary Paulsen. I merely picked them out of his book and arranged them as you see here.

A Doe of Beauty

A fairy place

A make-believe land

Ice crystals showered their way with gold

The light made diamonds in the snow

Beauty splashed through the woods

And there she stood

In the moonlight, a golden deer

Looking like a picture on a Christmas card

The doe stood in puffs of steam

Waiting

But waiting for what

I am not, but I am, I am the deer

I will touch her

And she will be mine

A doe

A golden deer

In a make-believe land

Will be mine

A/N: I believe I got a B for this poem. I might have misunderstood the assignment. I think my teacher wanted us to pick out lines and words from throughout the book, but I focused on only a few chapters. Also, I think he wanted the poem to have a meaning similar to the book, but I got carried away with Paulsen's beautiful imagery. Oh well, that was eight years ago. I hope you enjoyed the poem.
