The characters used in this fic aren't mine. They belong to Sunrise,
Bandai, and whatever other company has a say in their fate.
A casual observer would remark they were physically alike.
Both had the same facial structure, the same hairstyle with the mess of either brown or blonde hair somehow looking controlled, the same deep eyes, and the same bright smile that told you that everything would be alright.
But those same people would say that's where the similarities ended.
She was loud and brash. He was quite and speculative. She acted first, asked questions later. He thinks before he acts. She needs assurance. He needs isolation. She wants to lead a normal life outside of her responsibilities. He thinks he needs all the responsibility to feel needed.
Yet despite that they were more similar than people could perceive.
They both have the same dreams.
They both have the same aspirations.
They both have the same hope for the future.
They both have the same relationships.
Each could not believe the people they got together with the one they ended up with; it was like a dream come true. But like all dreams they are both afraid they will awake one morning to find that their fantasies will disappear into the air never to be remembered again.
She cannot imagine why someone like him would be with her. She does not know what she can offer him. She is loud, opinionated, and does not absolutely in no terms do the 'girl thing,' and with the war over she does not know if he will stay around long enough for her to rebuild a broken nation before anything can start between them.
He cannot imagine why someone like her would be with him. He does not know what she can offer her. He is quiet, shy, an unknown, and emotionally fragile with all the happenings in the war, and with the war over he does not know if she will stay around long enough for him to recover emotionally before anything can start between them.
They both constantly think that their respective partners are better suited for each other instead of them. They compliment themselves in way that they could not be if they went with each other. Two peas in a pod.
Perfect.
But as long they are around they will continue to live the dream because who ever wants to let go of someone they love?
And with that there was at least one thing they shared in common.
Uncertainty.
But as he takes her hand and she holds just as tightly they both realize in the end the only real thing they can count on is each other. Because in the end he would wait for her and she would wait for him.
And that was the only certainty they had.
