Chapter 2 – Hear Say –

The Doctor slowly opened his eyes. He could hardly ever remember having been knocked unconscious, although his memory told him he may have done a couple of times before, and his memory being his own, it had to be accurate, he assured himself. The world around him still blurred, and a ringing noise blared through his head, quite the unwelcome guest. He fought these nuisances aside, looking up slowly as his senses came to again.

"How very kind of you to join us Doctor" a commanding, persuasive yet straight to the point voice told him. Looking round, he saw the man, sitting in a chair opposite him, a table separating them, he was sat in a small wooden chair, which was quite uncomfortable, especially considering he had just been asleep in it. He blinked, just to make sure he was seeing correct. The man appeared to be a police officer, although he could only guess his rank was sergeant, not having much contact with American police forces in his lives, but from his name tag, which read Sgt. Aaron Jones. Several insignias belonging to the NYPD were sowed near. He appeared to be in his 40s, and sported a small moustache drooping down to the sides of his mouth. His eyes were hardened, showing much wisdom and experience, but also a touch of brashness. His hair gelled back into a comb over was dark brown, with just the odd grey streak here and there. The Doctor shook his head to throw of the last of the headache.

"I'm terribly sorry, but where am I?" he asked, before his brain, which obviously was still suffering from the assault, deduced it for him anyway.

"I daresay that matters Doctor, but for your information, we are in the New York police station, happy now?"

"Happy?" The Doctor recalled the events leading up to his arrest. "Utter nonsense. I hope you have some humorous reason for why I'm here, I'm a busy man you should know." He boasted.

"I wouldn't hesitate to think otherwise Doctor. Especially when we have video footage of some of the events"

The Doctor paused, considering what was going exactly on. "How exactly do you know my name?" he queried.

"How do I…!" the sergeant stuttered. "Have you hit your head or something?"

"I'm beginning to wish I had, then I wouldn't be involved in this utter nonsense."

It was at this point the sergeant turned crimson red. His eye twitched slightly, and he towered over the Doctor. Seething with rage. "UTTER NONSENSE?" He screamed, but the Doctor did not flinch, although this man was now starting to resemble a certain creator of a certain mechanical pepperpot race. "HOW DARE YOU! Do you have any idea of the panic and fear you have induced?" his eyes bulged with each and every word, and for the slightest second it could appear that his eyes were actually doing the talking.

"Nope, not in the slightest" the Doctor grinned.

Sgt. Jones sat down at this, taking deep breathes. After a few moments he enquired, struggling to keep his voice under control "Are you suggesting you have no idea of what you did?"

The Doctor frowned. What he had done? Oh dear he mused to himself One of his past lives must have really put a spanner in the works, and left it all for him to work out. But then suddenly started to nag him that the officer knew him by looks. Had it been him? Could he have forgotten about something he had done. But you only forget the stuff you don't ever need to know! You're a brilliant mind, you can't just forget stuff on accident He reassured himself.Suddenly he had a great feeling of pre-ja vu, the feeling that you're going to be here in the future about the whole business. He sighed deeply. He must have come here in his future, but this worlds past.

Fixing his gaze on the Sergeant, he placed both hands on the table.

"Look, whatever you've accused me, or did accuse me of doing, I can't be blamed for yet, I havn't actually do the things, whatever you said or will say they are. I will do those things I havn't did yet. But not just yet." He was hoping this would throw the Sergeant off a slightly little bit, praying his human mind would take a while to work out what he had just said. But Sgt. Jones just blinked.

"Don't talk utter nonsense man. I know what you did! You can't say you're going to go back and do it."

The Doctor met his eyes for a few seconds. He was impressed by this mans capability, but also disappointed at his lack of success in putting him off. He paused for thought for a few seconds, then it hit him. Of course! Hadn't Romana taught him it, or used it herself, when he had that funny scarf and the massive teeth? Well, he might as well put it to good use. Since he knew he had done something in his future self in the past, that must mean he had gotten out of this cell and or escaped at some point. Now, if he caused a distraction in the past in his future life, then he would be able to escape as a result of that in the present. Of course, this could possibly cause a time distortion, but as long as he was ok, then he could fix anything that went wrong, and he would have to remind himself to cause the distraction in the past when he got out.

As soon as he had finished that thought, a man burst in through the door. He was breathing heavily, and he looked rather perspired. Excellent. I must remember to congratulate myself on the timing of the distraction. He smiled slightly, and raised an eyebrow to greet the newcomer.

"Sir!" He gasped, trying desperately to hang onto the door knob. "We…… we're….. being invaded"

Sgt. Jones eyes bulged as he heard this. "Are you serious?" he barked loudly, making the poor young officer flinch slightly. It was fairly obvious that he wasn't cut to be leading any police force anytime soon.

"Y…Yes sir, come… come see for yourself"

Invaded? Hmmm, it must be an impressive distraction. But before he could think anymore,Sgt. Jones immediately ran out with the officer, and ran off right to the right, out of view of the Doctor's eyesight. He immediately stood up and made his way to the door, but before he could get there, the Sergeant and the officer had run back past the door the other way. It was quite odd for police to get lost in their own building, but it happened sometimes. Walking out after them, he stopped in his tracks. He saw now the reason why they had changed their direction so hastily. For stood in front of him were some of his oldest adversaries. Ones that he had fought throughout his many lives, and only just managed to gain an advantage over them each and every time.

The Cybermen.
