A/N: this is just a quick drabble I thought I'd post between chapters in Antabuse. Rogan is mentioned and talked about, but it's from Emily's POV.

Summery: "But how will I get her away from Lorelei?" We both grinned at each other. There was a plan to be made. Takes place during Richard's and Rory's talk in AHINAN.

You'll Have What You Couldn't Have

"Shira," I said in a rather determined manner, as I approached my long time friend.

"Emily, how are you? How is Richard?"

"Richard and I are both fine. I was actually hoping to speak with you about something, well, frankly, rather disturbing that I heard."

Shira raised her eyebrows. "Oh, and what was that?"

"My daughter – you remember Lorelei."

"Yes."

"Well, Lorelei came to speak with me about my granddaughter and mentioned an incident that allegedly happened when Rory attended dinner at your home. I, of course, did not want to jump to conclusions; we have been friends for far too long for that."

"Of course." We both knew that being friends hardly mattered in this case, but speaking such un-pleasantries was simply rude.

"Now, Lorelei has been known to throw things out of proportion before, but she said that Rory was, well, attacked." I decided that dancing around it was simply not working, so I came outright and said it, and as I assumed, Shira was not offended.

Shira laughed, as if I had said the funniest joke she ever heard. "Emily, you know I would never 'attack' anyone." I silently scoffed. If she did not attack people, then my daughter was simply delusional with the way I treat certain people. "As you said, Lorelei threw it entirely out of proportion."

"But there was something to throw out of proportion?"

'Emily, you know we think Rory is a wonderful girl, but we just didn't think that she would fully appreciate the life you and I have. Logan has never been serious about a girl before; I must have panicked."

"Oh, yes, of course. I was sure it was just a misunderstanding on my daughter's part." I didn't even try to make myself sound convincing; I knew she knew I would never believe it anyway. I turned to make my way to my car.

"Emily," Shira's voice was enticing, sly, "Have you considered that, perhaps, we might all gain what we want?"

I turned back to her. "I'm not sure what you mean, Shira."

"You and Richard want Rory to be with someone of good breeding. Mitchum and I want Logan to be with someone of good breeding and well in the social circles. Rory seems to enjoy Logan's company, and I am quite sure that Logan is happy with her. I am sure we could all find a compromise-"

"If you are suggesting what I think you are, then the answer is no." I turned on my heel and walked away, but Shira's next pitch stopped me dead in my tracks.

"You'll have what you couldn't have with Lorelei. You could have that with Rory. You had a plan for your daughter, but what about your granddaughter? Rumour has it that Rory will not be attending Yale next year. She will need guidance and who better than her grandmother?" I slowly turned and walked back to her.

My voice dropped to a whisper, "But how will I get her away from Lorelei?" We both grinned at each other. There was a plan to be made.
