Thunder Scares

Sakura was crying.

The electricity had gone out an hour earlier, and the only thing that lit her bedroom was a single candle sitting on the desk. She was huddled on her bed, whimpering and shaking every time she heard the thunder, her face was wet from tears.

Sakura hated storms and being alone in the dark. Why did her father and older brother have to be away at a time like this?

Suddenly, her bedroom door opened, causing Sakura to jump. There stood Touya, drenched with water, guilty for leaving his little sister alone.

"I'm sorry I couldn't come sooner," Touya said, barely able to stand seeing Sakura like this. His heart wrenched at the sight. She was hunched up on her bed, crying, scared, staring at him with big, watery eyes, illuminated by a small source of light. This was all his fault; he should've been there.

Touya swallowed and made his way towards Sakura's bed, drops of water falling from him as he walked. He wasn't sure what to do. There had been lots of times where he had to play his protective older brother role, scaring anything or anyone away that was bothering her, but he never had to comfort her. That job was usually left to their father. And he couldn't bear to make things worse for Sakura. Touya wished for nothing more at that moment than to not be there. He was panicked and scared, one of the worst feelings in the world, probably even more so than Sakura. But he wanted nothing more than to take away all of his little sister's fears and make her feel safe, not just because seeing Sakura back to her normal, happy self would make him feel relieved, but because she was his little sister, one of the people he cared about the most.

He hesitantly sat down beside Sakura on her bed, water dripping from his clothes and hair. And suddenly, she flung herself onto him, wrapping her arms around his neck and burying her head on his chest, sobbing madly.

Touya paused for a second and looked down at her. His heart started to break, as he felt Sakura's tears dampen his shirt already wet shirt, and he did the only thing he could think of. Touya brought his little sister closer to him and embraced her, his hand softly stoking the back of her head. "Shh… everything's gonna be alright. You're not alone anymore, " Touya said soothingly. It was as if all of this had come naturally to him.

Sakura's sobs started to lessen and be began to calm down, her head still against his chest. Touya smiled to himself.
