"Empty is nothing and nothing is you, I think I'll just sit for a while."

He loves her. You can see it in his eyes. The way he looks at her. The way he smiles at her when she smiles back at him. She doesn't know it yet.

She loves him. She'll never tell him. She can't tell him now she knows they could have been happy if she'd only trusted him. But trust never came easily to her.

It cuts him up to see her with him. The way he slides his arm around her waist as if he possesses her. It's all so fucked up, weeks ago he thought she was his sister and now he just goes back to her like they never broke up. Like he never thought he slept with his own blood.

And she lets him because while she loves Duncan she never wants to be burnt like the way her mother did. She never wants to gamble away her heart away and lose. She'd done that already and she would never do it again.

Logan gets drunk at a party. It's nothing new. He puts his fist through a wall. Dick and Beaver just laugh – Logan's done some pretty stupid things in the past. What could he do? He crawled back to them all when he knew she was never coming back. It was Duncan's turn to be unpopular, his father in jail. Sure Logan's was too – but Aaron still had his mad fans, even those who believed Lily deserved to die. Crazy, yes, but still fans. Who did Logan have?

She was safe with Duncan. Warm. Liked. Possibly even loved. Even Celeste began to warm to her. After all, Veronica had proven that her precious Duncan wasn't a vicious murderer. Duncan and her had sex without the drugs not long after they got back together. It wasn't a thing of passion merely a formality, an acknowledgement of what had happened, and that they were back to where they should have been before Lily's murder. Veronica was safe.

Logan secretly fantasises about pulling Veronica aside and kissing her in the hallway full of people. But he doesn't because he knows she wouldn't even smile at him after that. And he wouldn't be able to cope with her not smiling at him – the sole reason he knows she loves still loves him.

They pass each other in the hallway. They smile. They lie. Neither dares make physical contact.

Logan loves Veronica and Veronica loves Logan.

Duncan walks up to Veronica and they interlock hands.

Logan's smile twists until it is clearly fake. He walks away.

Yes, Logan loves Veronica but he'll never tell her because he knows she loves him too.
