Poem: One Good Thing

In Memory of Leo Pierce

Once we swam blindly in an intimate embrace
We emerged sequentially as a single being
Joined at the core by an indestructible bond
My other half

Children forged from humanity's errors
We discovered ourselves together
Played innocent games with our powers
My other half

When those who gave us life discarded us
We had nothing to sustain us but each other
Adversity cemented the devotion between us
My other half

Inner tempests threatened to devour you
I feared you would be blown away from me
I vowed that I would shelter your soul
My other half

Seduced by the devil's smiling promises
I made you relinquish your spirit to be broken
I hurled you into the abyss of hell all alone
My other half

Your mind was shattered and body shredded
As they sliced your innocence into pieces
You hid every gaping gash for my sake
My other half

They unleashed the worst inside of you
You severed your bonds and fled from me
Terrified that I would restrain you again
My other half

I tried to reach you but it was too late
Too many wounds for my words to heal
My questing hands came back empty
My other half

Yours was the heart that made me whole
Yours was the love that made life worthwhile
You were my brother, my one good thing
My other half
