Weak morning sunlight seeped in through the window, dancing on her skin and warming her body ever so slightly. Shizuka's conscious was slowly summoned, though she refused to give in and open her eyes. Curling up ever so slightly in an attempt to go back to sleep, she found her back touching against bare skin. "Good morning" The words were whispered in her ear. Slowly she turned over and found herself face to face with Seto Kaiba, the man she thought herself to love. Her eyes filled with a fear at the sudden realization her lover was shirtless, and she had only a loose fitting shirt on – it looked as if it was his.
"Did we……?" She whispered, and her voice was almost pleading, eyes fearful. The thought appalled her. Quite some time ago she had sworn to keep her virginity until she was married. Had she broken such a promise? No, it couldn't be. She refused it to be. But he placed one finger on slightly parted lips that had opened to speak once more.
"Don't be ridiculous Shizuka. We merely laid down to nap, but it seems as if we slept all night" Shizuka breathed her relief. She asked for no other explanation but instead settled back to sleep.
He couldn't help but stare as she stretched her lithe body over the black futon that occupied his office. As her breathing began to show she was asleep, he ran his fingers through her hair. Silence often invited musings, so muse he did. In his whole life, he couldn't remember having friends. Mokuba maybe, but that was his little brother. So naturally he'd never expected to love anyone else besides the little boy. But now, as he lay next to her and stroked her hair softly, something dawned on him. He loved her. But how could it be? It was impossible that he, Seto Kaiba, would fall in love. No, no, he simply held affections for the girl. Nothing more. He was cool, calm, distanced from her and the world. Yet……as she yawned and buried her head in his chest, Seto could no longer ignore his love for Shizuka Jounouchi. Plain and simple, he loved her. God only knew he'd not be the first to admit it. Because he knew that she couldn't possibly love him as well. He'd be alone in this hole of loving with no return……
But he'd give up the world to keep on doing it.
