The Ability to Forget
Ok, so technically that was three minutes of heaven, but it was still as blissful as the first time the two had locked lips.
Veronica and Logan were lying in each others arms on Veronica's bed, her dad was out and the rest of the world was a mile away. Nothing that had happened to them mattered when they were together. Somehow his eyes took the weight of the world off her shoulders, and Veronica's smile was enough to fill Logan with warmth that would last for days.
It was simple and beautiful. They didn't need to speak, but when they did it was casual, and comfortable. Not serious like Duncan and her had been, or strained like Logan and Lilly. Together they balanced each other – together they were happy.
So when he ran his hand behind her back she didn't hesitate or pull back like she used to with Duncan. She kissed him, passionately, and he removed her top. Together the clothing removal process was calm and collected but still emotionally charged. When their skin connected the each felt jolts of pleasure down their spines – it was not just a physical connection, but a physical representation of their relationship that meant so much.
Veronica didn't make much noise. There was that time when Logan did that thing with his tongue, but apart from that. Logan was the noise maker. Not vicious noise like it had been with Lilly, or pain filled noise like it had been with Duncan but simply a vocal release of all that had been building up in him since he had first realised he was in love with Veronica Mars. Of course at first it consisted of repulsion and sarcasm, but now it was something completely the opposite.
When they had finished Veronica pulled him close, unlike she had with Duncan the second time they had sex. It was all cold and harsh and she couldn't stand to be there any longer. With Logan it was natural, and he was so warm, and she loved him. It was a scary thought to her when she first realised it. She went through various stages of acceptance and denial before it finally settled in her mind and in her heart. And in her stomach. Sure, she loved Logan but how did he feel? And if he felt the same – well what if they didn't work out? Veronica was always one to ask questions, even about nebulas, unanswerable questions. That was her greatest downfall, she always wanted answers, and some questions no matter how much she wanted it to be so, didn't have any.
Logan was the first of the two to break the contact. She begged him to come back, and he reassured her he would be gone but for a few moments. He was feeling particularly in need of a shower and called out to Veronica if she wanted to join him. She did. In the steam it was just the two of them, their vision clouded; it was just their bodies, together. Lilly was forgotten, Duncan was forgotten, everything was forgotten, and that's all they'd truly wanted. To forget. To forget a world full of pain, and misery, and disappointment. Forget Lilly's murder. Forget everything. And together they did. It was just them. Warm, safe, happy. And nothing else mattered. Yes, together they forgot and would never have to remember.
