Regrets

What would it be like?

She thought in her bed,

To have stayed with him

In the absence of light?

To know only him?

To hear his sweet voice?

To warm his cold heart…

The man lying next to her stirs in his sleep,

She cringes at his arm resting possessively around her.

She prays he won't wake to find her in this state

…again…

She thought she had known

Where her heart lies,

But every night she knows

That as she closes her eyes

She'll be with him once more

In his world of the night.

And she knows she'll always love him,

Even after the day that she dies.

He was her Angel of Music,

He still sings to her at night.

Only now it's just dreams,

And she tries hard to fight

The tears that come each time

She wakes only to find

That her Angel of Music

Is only there in her mind.

How could she refuse

A love that was true,

Only to realize she did love him too?

She was blinded by vanity,

She was only so young.

She let physical beauty rule her,

She let true beauty fade.

She realizes it now that her Angel's gone away.

Now, as she lies

At her dull lover's side,

Dreaming of the one man whose face

Denied him the beauty of love's happiness

All because she didn't know that physical beauty is only for show.

So she cries herself to sleep again,

Knowing she was wrong.

She prays that God forgive her and that he helps her be strong.

She knows that one day her Angel will return,

But she knows that the day will be in another life.

She left her true love buried

Five floors beneath the soiled earth.
