OUTCAST- CHAPTER 2

A/N: sorry for the wait everyone, but I honestly have no idea where this story's going…. I promise some J/L action later, but these first few chappie are important…. R&R and enjoy!

Shadow Dalton sat in the shade of the green palm trees, something she did quite often, watching the waves rise, curl and brake along the gritty golden sand. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see a group of seagulls swooping down into the blue water, hoping to find anything worth eating. A few yards down the beach, there was the image of Zirelle's white and teal surfboard gliding effortlessly along the smooth wave the majestically curved over her head. The power of the wave and her best friend's gracefulness balanced each other, creating a picture much like one on a postcard the tourists would buy from the local store.

Without warning, a coconut dropped from the branch above her, and landed on her head with a loud, "THUNK!" The instant the brow shell came in contact with her waist length jet black hair; she could feel a deathly cold chill move through her body and realized instantly that she was disappearing. Her finger tip immediately tingled and turned white before becoming invisible entirely. Though she discovered her power at the mere age of eleven, fifteen year old Shadow (or Shadowcast as she called herself) still had trouble becoming invisible quickly.

For a few agonizing seconds, her body felt like it was going to explode as each molecule became transparent. She felt her eyesight blur and could no longer make out the waves. Forcing herself to focus, she concentrated on where she would become visible again, though pain seared through her like white heat.

The sound of Jet's "Are you gonna be my girl?" and Zirelle's cheering brought her back to reality. She smiled at her red-headed friend as she materialized before her eyes.

"You're late Shadow…" Zirelle said, returning her friend's smile and shoving the back of her surfboard into the ground.

"You were expecting me Ms. Gainer?"

"Well I must be off because according to my vision, you were supposed to get her 32 seconds ago…"

Shadow shook her head, "Sorry… blame it on the coconut…"

Zirelle tilted her head like a confused puppy, and then anxiously plunged head first into Shadow's mind without warning.

She saw Shadow watching her surf as a brown coconut fell on her head, causing her to vanish in thin air.

"Wow Shadow… didn't know you could be so…"

"Oh shut it Zirelle!"

"So… you didn't bring your board?"

"Are you kidding me! I've never ridden 30 footers!"

"Well if I can, you sure can…"

"Let me remind you that if I bail and break my arm, it won't heal in two days like yours did…"

"Ah the beauty of regeneration… so why did you come here then?"

"I needed to talk to you about something…"

"What?"

"Charles Xavier…"

"Who's he?"

"The answer to all our questions… the freedom we've been searching for…"
