Mac's Apartment

Georgetown

Rain lashed against the apartment building as if trying to dash the bricks to pieces. Thunder rolled and lightning flashed illuminating the cloud filled sky and the empty street below. All the apartments were light up, there occupants engaged in some form of entertainment. All save one. The windows were dark although a figure could be seen at the window lost in there thoughts. In the background a CD could be heard.

The wise man said just walk this way
To the dawn of the light
The wind will blow into your face
As the years pass you by

She was alone with the darkness and her melody. Simple pleasures in life. She always felt safe in the night. As if they had become one some how. Discreet, quiet, comfortable. It was the storms that bothered her. They brought her past back in waves.

As the song started over someone knocked on her door. Her feet felt like blocks of wood, immobile no matter how hard she tried. The knock sounded again and after a moment the sound of a key scraping in the lock echoed through the apartment accompanying the beginning strains of her song. So this is what she had been reduced to again. A helpless child who couldn't do anything right. Not even open her own door. Resting her forehead on the window she let the cool seep through calming her, numbing her. When gentle hands were placed on her arms, warming her flesh she didn't notice.

Hear this voice from deep inside
It's the call of your heart
Close your eyes and your will find
The passage out of the dark

Her senses were numb until warm arms encircled her from behind. Opening her eyes she breathed in. The body behind her smelled vaguely like cologne, vaguely like the office and vaguely like something unique, something that would only be smelt on him. Shifting slightly so she was leaning back against him she stared straight ahead.

"What are you doing here Harm"

"Something was off when you left work today. I tried to call but you never picked up. I was worried."

Touched that he had been worried Mac tried to come up with an answer that would satisfy his curiosity.

"Its something about storms that bother me. I'm not scared of them or anything. It's more like a feeling I get."

Turning her around in his arms Harm sighed, resting his jaw on the top of her head.

"Storms bring back a lot of bad memories for people"

Here I am
Will you send me an angel
Here I am
In the land of the morning star

Sighing she wrapped arms around him, leaning her head on his chest. More than you'll ever know.

Swaying slightly he started dancing, Mac safely wrapped in his arms.

The wise man said just find your place
In the eye of the storm
Seek the roses along the way
Just beware of the thorns

Here I am
Will you send me an angel
Here I am
In the land of the morning star

It was a slow, comforting dance between two people meant for each other just to blind to see it. Breathing in she tucked her head under his; content to be held in the way she longed for.

"No matter what Mac I'll always be here for you. Come hell or high water I'm yours"

Here I am
Will you send me an angel
Here I am
In the land of the morning star
