Tree Frogs

He found her sitting alone on the back porch, listening to the sounds of the night. June bugs chirped away in their ever vigilant song, and a smile slowly crept over her lips. She didn't look at him when he sat beside her.

"Millicent, it's not safe for you to be out here alone," he said softly.

"Will you listen to those tree frogs? They never know when to give up."

There was the vital difference between them. When he heard June bugs, she heard tree frogs. He saw thought she was beautiful, and she didn't.

"Let's go in, love."
