They all knew it would happen eventually. The long awaited battle between Naraku and themselves. They didn't often talk about it, but as the inevitable drew nearer, the quiet fear and restless anticipation they all felt became etched into their faces.

By day, they were wary and almost overly cautious. They didn't even try to hide it from each other anymore. Most nights they would lay awake, or just beyond the border of consciousness, ready to leap into action if need be. They were no longer rested or well-nourished, instead drawing most of their strength from the adrenaline that pulsed through their bodies at every unexpected sound.

They lived day to day, and all the while their lives grew shorter. The odds were grim, but there was an unspoken agreement among the six comrades. Whatever the outcome, whoever the victor, they would fight together until the end. If they won, they would win side by side, and if they died, they would die together. It was only a matter of time before that day came, and only their actions that could deter disaster... if their strength held that long.
