Fallen Rurouni

"Sanosuke-dono?"

"What?"

"Can you get Kaoru-dono? I... I need to talk to her."

Kenshin was lying in one of the rooms behind Kaoru's dojo. His stomach and throat had been lacerated severely, and breathing and eating pained him. The great Hitokiri was slowly fading away.

Sanosuke nodded. "Fine, I'll get Kaoru. Just don't die while I'm gone."

"This one will not die right now."

Sanosuke got up and left. A few moments later, Kaoru came in. She looked as if she had been crying. "Kenshin?"

"Kaoru-dono... Sit down..."

Kaoru came over to beside his bed and kneeled down. "How... How are you feeling?"

"Not much better." At the look on her face, he spoke again hurriedly. "But don't worry. I may deserve all of this."

"Don't say that!"

"Oro?"

"You don't deserve to die! Nobody does!"

"Kaoru-dono... I'm a horrible person."

She looked up, shocked. "No..."

"Yes. This one has slain more than he has ever helped."

"No!"

"I may just be a Rurouni to you, but I am an assassin."

"NO!"

It was Kenshin's turn to look shocked. "Ororo?"

Kaoru was crying. "You're a good person! You've changed!"

"Kaoru-dono, any way you look at it, I'm going to die. This one is sorry for many things, but one thing above those. Leaving you."

"What?"

"Kaoru... I love you. I guess I always have. This one is ashamed of having to leave you."

Kaoru sat there, tears streaming down her face silently. "Kenshin..."

"Don't mourn after I die. I don't want you to be unhappy. Tell Yahiko and Sanosuke that I'll remember them... And that I love... you..."

He closed his eyes, and Kaoru cradled his body.

When Sanosuke came back in, he saw Kaoru kneeling on the floor, rocking back and forth, whispering, "I love you too... I love you too. I love you too! I LOVE YOU TOO! Kenshin please please please wake up!"

Sanosuke put a hand on her shoulder. "Kaoru..."

"No! Don't touch me! He's d-de-dead.." She burst into tears again, burying her face in Sanosuke's shoulder. He looked bewildered, then looked at Kenshin's body.

He spoke. "Kaoru?"

"Shut up!"

"Kaoru!"

"What?"

"Look!"

Kenshin's chest was rising and falling slowly. Kaoru scrambled over to him madly. "Kenshin? Wake up, Kenshin!"

He opened his eyes slightly. "Kaoru-dono?"

She looked down at him, tears shining in her eyes. "I love you, Kenshin!"

"Oro?"

"I love you too!"

He shut his eyes and smiled. "This one thanks you for that, Kaoru-dono."

Sanosuke looked embarrassed. "So, um, when's the wedding?"

Yay! My first Kenshin fic! It was so fluffy! And the end was incredibly corny, but still, it's a Kenshin fic. I got obsessed like two days ago, and I fell in love with Sanosuke. So expect more fics.
