The Glorious State of Being
©2006 by Kei
He is Kagome's desperation to forget.
He is the blowing wind that makes her cry and remember.
He is a memory that steals inside her room through the window every night.
He is the first word from her mouth every morning because she jolts awake calling it.
He is the last word she wants to hear right now.
He is the nonsense rhyme she heard children chanting while they jumped rope.
He is the crippled tiger she saw being treated at the zoo.
He is the yellow, dead bamboo plant in her therapist's office.
He is the frozen second hand on the broken clock in the classroom.
He is her brother's love-worn sweater, her mother's chipped teacup, her grandfather's broom sweeping away autumn leaves.
He is her own trembling fingers as she takes a knife and gouges a hole in the center of her left palm.
He is nothing, but he is everything she wants.
But he is nothing now, and so that is what she has.
