Sasuke couldn't understand.
He'd stay outside during the early mornings--where he would rise earlier than the sun and most; where the birds just started chirping, like nature's clock unneeded for setting--he would wait, wonder, stare, ponder…
…Why couldn't he understand?
(And what was there to understand, anyway?)
"Because you're thinking too deep about it." She told him once, gently yet enthusiastically, in a way as if she were explaining to a young child the vibrant colors of a rainbow. He remembered how she had stepped beside him that particular morning (her hair was shining and her eyes were fresh from sleep)--she was just in time for the starting sunrise, where the many shades of orange just began veiling the sky, fading the night slowly; like a toddler's hands coloring bright pencils over a dark page.
Her eyes were as green as some leaves fresh with dawn's dew, sparkling like so when she spoke. "You're being too mature." She explained, almost reprimanding--she wanted to regain his innocence--"Think as if you were a six year old."
(Innocence? What innocence?)
He looked at her strangely. Impassively, then, "That's easier said than done."
She shrugged. "It's only as simple as you want it to be."
He suddenly became silent. Thoughts began forming in his head, swirling madly until he knew he needed to speak them out. His head snapped back to face her, and his lips moved, "But--"
She turned to listen to him, grinning attentively; "But?"
(And he was suddenly startled by the light in her smile.)
Instead of speaking, he found himself shaking his head, all confusion and swirling insanity disappearing.
"…Nothing."
And he looked away, but a ghost of a smile crept up his lips. At the back of his mind, he thought he could hear Sakura laughing.
The sun rose, and Sasuke understood.
.owari.
