Waiting for You Forever…Right?

Lara sat on her bed, staring at the picture on her wall. She felt all the memories flood back as she slid into the past. Seeing that picture of Patrick always made her laugh, smile, then inevitably cry, as she remembered his death. Today was different though, she was looking at his picture for advice. Lara thought of the promise she had made as she sat beside Patrick while he lay on his death bed.

"I won't ever love another," she had said, "I promise I will wait for you."

Now, two years later as she sat in her apartment, looking at the picture of her late love, she wasn't so sure she could. That was before she had fallen for Simon. Before she had felt his love, before she had known his generosity. Before she almost lost him, before she proposed. Now, she doubted that too, her decision to propose to Simon.

"I love you!" she had said the night before on the train platform. "I love you!"

Did Lara really love Simon, or was she really proposing to Patrick, her long lost love. Tonight, 24 hours later, Lara wasn't quite sure who she really thought she was marrying. It wasn't so much that Simon was an incarnate of Patrick, it was just she shared a love similar to her's with Patrick with Simon. Lara was wrapped up in these thoughts when she sensed there was someone outside her door.

"Lara…" she heard a voice.

She felt a chill come over her. Was that---no it couldn't---Patrick?

"Pa—Patrick?"

She opened her eyes, which she had closed when she heard the voice. She heard herself scream as she saw him.

"Lara…don't be worried. It's Patrick. Lara, I know you'll wait for me, but it doesn't mean you have to wait alone."

Lara stared at the ghost in front of her. She nodded, mostly out of fear. "Yes…"

Patrick smiled. "I love you Lara. Follow your heart, and I know you'll be waiting for me."

Lara smiled, as Patrick disappeared before her eyes. As she saw him fade away, she knew what she had to do. She picked up the phone beside her. She dialed a number.

"Hello, Simon? It's Lara. We need to talk. No, no it's good…."
