Divergence

DISCLAIMER

Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter, Severus Snape and Moaning Myrtle are properties of Joanne Kathleen Rowling. The poem, however, is mine and only mine.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: SPOILER WARNING

Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince colors the poem highly. I advise you not to proceed if you haven't finished reading the book yet. The poem's loosely based on the "Sectumsempra Incident" and several Potterverse essays and discussions about mirrors. Harry and Draco have thrice seen each other through mirrors...hence a hint at their parallelism (thank you, Daniela Teo, Chris and Coki!). This poem is NON Slash.

Divergence

by Lustreole

Looking up at the cracked mirror

Murmuring to Solitude (1)

I saw you.

Who are you?

No, not my Reflection...

Always my Affliction!

I saw what I would not turn into

I saw Time; slowly unfolded

I saw my Being; seconds away to be ripped

I saw Doom; so haunting this year

I saw what it meant to shed my tears

I saw Light; She wished you well

I saw Darkness; He left my shell

Looking up at the cracked mirror,

Muttering to Aptitude (2)

I saw you.

Who are you?

No, never my Reflection...

Always my Destruction!

I saw that I had no sustaining clue

I saw Time; strangely abridged

I saw a Burden; in the past not subsisted

I saw Doom; dragging my steps here

I saw that I had to face my fears

I saw Light; She enclosed my shell

I saw Darkness; He bid you farewell

Like saddened Sunshine, or-

A thousand Shadows...

Coerced evermore—we are

Like mysterious Janus

Like gold Muggle coins

Like murderous Brutus

Like dolt hassled Cain,

Like my five denigrated Senses

Like his rapacious waters (3)

Like your four disintegrated Houses (4)

Like their raucous banners

Like Iago and The Moor Fighter

Like Lear and his abhorred daughters

Like Hamlet and his uncle-father

Like maddened Moonshine, or-

A thousands Crows...

Coalesced nevermore—we are,

Like images on one-way mirrors. (5)

THE END.

I'm waiting for your responses (i.e. reviews).

AUTHOR'S NOTE 2: CONCERNING THE POEM

The Title: Why "Divergence"? It's my allusion to mirrors, as well as Optics terminology.

(1) "murmuring to solitude"... Myrtle (to whom Draco was speaking) is a ghost, isn't she? Well, I try to connect the word "ghosts" with "nothingness"because ghosts are transparent. And "nothingness" brings me to another word, "solitude".

(2) "muttering to aptitude"... Harry was thinking of his next Quidditch match. "Aptitude" is synonymous with "skill", although I must admit that both words aren't closely linked.

(3) "his" here is not Voldemort and certainly neither Draco nor Harry. To whom does "his" refer to ? Snape.
Alan Rickman (Snape in the Potter movies) said that 'There's such "still waters" in Snape." I changed his phrase into 'rapacious waters'. It doesn't automatically signify that Snape is a predator... It's just a reminder of Draco's words, "You only want to steal my glory!"... Got me?

(4) "your four..Houses" are Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin and Hufflepuff, of course!
For Draco, whatever happened at Hogwarts wasn't his focus in life anymore (in other words, if Harry still wanted to mess with Hogwarts antics, fine).

(5) "One-way mirrors" are common mirrors, much different from Sirius' last gift to Harry. Our mirrors.

Mentions of William Shakespeare's Tragedies: Hamlet, Othello and King Lear, because I've just read them. Insert newbie's zeal here...

Once again...please review. Thanks a zillion!
