The Taste of Blood
Chapter 3-Jager
My first reaction, I must say, was one of shock. What was that stranger doing here? Of course he lived in Alexandria and I realized that I only knew about two thirds of the people who had come, but I didn't let myself stray on that thought. As the song ended, I slowly made my way over to him.
"Who are you?" the question blurted out of my mouth. I blushed in shame at the rudeness of the question, but the man only smiled.
"I am Jager," he said, taking my hand lightly. I blushed again. "And who are you?"
"Fala," I answered.
There was an awkward silence, before the man, Jager, said, "And are you the birthday girl today?" When he asked how old I was, I answered 17, with much pride in my voice. Jager's eyes glazed over slightly, and his eyes swiftly darted to my throat.
"And how do you like being 17, Fala? So young!" he exclaimed.
I was angered and hurt by that statement. After all, being 17 meant that I was a full-fledged lady of the house.
"I'll be married soon," I said indignantly. "And besides," I looked him over, "you can't be much older than me, anyway."
The man chuckled lightly, "I shall see you some other time Fala." And with that, he gently kissed me on my mouth. Too shocked to say anything, I let it happen. By the time I recovered my wits, he was gone.
All of a sudden, my four sisters flocked towards me.
"Oh Fala! Who is he?" Aria asked.
"By the gods, he's gorgeous!" Janita exclaimed.
"Wasn't he the same one we saw at Aunt Janita's wedding?" Cheri inquired.
"Ewwwwwww, Fala! That was disgusting! Why did you let that ugly guy put his mouth on you?"
At this statement, my other three sisters turned their attention to little Isis. I took this opportunity to quietly sneak away to my bedroom. As I walked out the stairs, shouts of "He's gorgeous!" and "It is not disgusting!" filled the air.
When I got back to my bedroom, I was surprised to find the man, Jager, there. He must have realized that I was about to scream, because he quickly covered my mouth with his hand.
"Don't scream," he said gently. "I'm not going to hurt you. I am going to let go of you, and you are not going to yell or anything, okay?"
I nodded my head in agreement, and he uncovered my mouth.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
Jager shrugged. "Well, I wanted to talk to you."
"Okay," I said as I sat down on a chair. "Talk." Jager smiled.
"I wanted to learn more about you," he said.
I raised my eyebrow in surprise. "You walk into my room without my consent, and then demand for me to talk about myself. I think that you should go first."
Jager smiled again. "Alright, fair enough. Well, I was born in Greece.
(A/N: ok, I don't really know a lot about Jager, so I'm kinda just guessing and going along with my own ideas. If you know more about him, please review or e-mail me and I'll change it ( thankx!!!)
"I had an...unplanned, encounter with someone about a year ago, who rather changed my life quite a bit. I came to Egypt soon after."
"Who changed your life?" I asked, curious.
Jager chuckled, and said, "Well, I am sorry, but I am not at liberty to tell you that."
"Oh." I said. There was an awkward silence.
"So, Fala, tell me about yourself."
Thankful for something to fill the silence, I blabbered on about my life. My sisters, my aunt, the wedding, my parents, everything I could think of. When I stopped for a breath, Jager quickly took liberty of my silence and interrupted me.
"I apologize for stopping, but I really must go." He said.
"But wait, "I protested. "You didn't tell me about yourself."
Jager smiled. "Then I guess that we shall just have to meet again, won't we?"
I grinned back. "I guess so."
After Jager left, I flopped back on my bed and sighed. Who would have thought? I had finally met a man who actually seemed interested in what I had to say. He didn't get bored when I talked continuously about my sisters. He seemed so sophisticated!
I snuggled contentedly under my covers, and dreamed of sophisticated men.
