The Taste of Blood Ch. 6- Criminal

A/N- I know that Jager met Fala and changed her on the same day, but where's the fun in that? It'd have to be a pretty long day.... On with chapter 6! R/R!! (

When I finally regained consciousness, the first sight to reach me was a pair of angry black eyes. I discovered that there were feet to go along with those eyes when they cruelly kicked my side, forcing me up from my supine position. "She's awake," the guard called, glaring at me with great distaste. His comrade stuck his head in the door and gave a nod, beckoning my guard to leave the cell. Cell? Suddenly energetic, I ran to the barred window. The sight that met my eyes was so horrible that I quickly looked away. All those burned buildings, all those charred people, all those children's' cries. What had caused this? A small voice in my head whispered: you. I shook my head violently, no. I couldn't have possibly caused all this destruction, could I? Exhaustion swept me, and I silently lay down on my pallet. I dreamed of an Egyptian girl who smiled cruelly as she lit the reeds on fire. She grinned madly until she heard a scream. "Ryanne!" the girl cried, looking behind her. A smaller girl of about 9 stared with huge eyes at the flames surrounding her. The older girl blacked out and then smoke consumed my view. I woke up sweating, a scream locked in my throat. Tears ran down my face, as I realized.... the girl was me. I refused to think of what happened to Ryanne. She had to be alive! Right? Children don't die! They can't! Sobbing, the voice again whispered in my head that yes, children, can and do die. I ran to the guard at the door, "Is my sister alive?" I screeched at him, clinging to the bars that held me inside the cell The guard just glared at me. "Please, tell me!" I cried, pawing at his uniform. The guard shook me off with a look of disgust on his face, "No!" he shouted. "No, your sister is not alive! And, thanks to you, neither are my little son, my niece, and almost a quarter of the village! You will be put to death, although no one will mourn the loss!" With that, he turned his back to me, and strode farther down the hallway, away from my cries of grief. Suddenly, there was a great commotion at the end of the hallway, but I didn't care. I lay down on my pallet and turned my head towards the wall. I heard sounds of fighting, but I didn't bother to look. I didn't even lift my head until my cell door opened. Standing in the doorway was Jager. "Jager?" I asked confused. "What are you doing here?" He ran to my side, "Are you hurt?" Tears filled my eyes as I shook my head, no. I will not cry in front of Jager, I will not cry in front of Jager, I will not cry in front of Jager! Then, to my horror, I realized that I was bawling all over the front of Jager's tunic, creating a huge wet spot on his shoulder. Jager patted my back and smoothed my hair, whispering words of comfort. When I finally stopped my endless wail, I again asked what Jager was doing in my cell. "Remember when I told you about my...er...situation? Well, if you don't want to die...well... then I can help you," Jager explained, flustered. "What do you mean?" I asked suspiciously. Jager rubbed the back of his neck, "Well...what I mean, is that I can change you into...what I am," he said haltingly. "You won't die," he clarified. "So...if I decide to accept this...proposal, then I will never die, and I will suck blood for the rest of my life?" I asked with raised eyebrows. Jager gave a shrug, "It's not all that bad," he said. There was a long silence as I pondered this new choice. On one hand, if I don't accept, then I will die, as I deserve. But on the other hand, if I do accept then I will not die, but I will spend the rest of my life being a vampire. Hmm, let's see, die vs. don't die. I stared up at Jager with wide eyes, "I accept." Jager grinned.
