With one eyes open, the prognosis for the morning didn't look very bright. Sunrays were nowhere to be seen in the sky, and trees were overshadowing billowing bushes and swaying grass. Rain seemed to pound all around on the ground, driving in sheets against bare skin. He was stinging from head to toe, eyes pounding and stinging as blood dripped slowly down from his forehead, cascading into his mouth warm and red. He had been beaten again, and felt his pride drip from him as the very essence of himself washed away in the sudden flash flood of rain. Defeat was something he had felt before, but nothing like this. To be beaten by a kid…it was too much to comprehend and somehow it made him chuckle. He had always been more than exceptional…always the kind that could almost never be beaten. Almost never…he thought, those were the key words. His eye throbbed, as a part of him wished he had a mirror so he could see the damage done to his eye. Things seemed to whisper around him, as he attempted to rise, and found much to his amazement that his leg was throbbing so hard he could hardly stand it. He got what he deserved…he guessed…some days he didn't know what was going through that boy's head.

The sun peeked in and out of the clouds as it rose high into the sky slowly but surely. He could barely make out camp ahead, and smiled, in much pain, to himself. He could even feel a tooth or two missing - the kid had done well. Much to his dismay however, as he neared camp, something about it seemed to catch his eye, something that he had not seen the previous day before – it was utterly destroyed. Flames sprouted out of tents and other crudely made structures, burnt earth covered his path and smoke soared into the raining sky. Reflections splayed in his eyes, and the wind blew fiercely as he thought of only one thing…the kid. It had been a somewhat routine training exercise, ending somehow in him getting his rear end beaten by a young kid still somewhat fresh in training. His mind jogged back to the situation at hand as he held his leg which was throbbing painfully at this point, hoping that what he was seeing was something that was not real. Thoughts raced as to what could have happened…he had never encountered anything like this before, nothing of this magnitude…he was used to going solo. He slowly bent down and as he tapped into his microphone said:

"Raiden…are you there? It's Snake. Raiden!"
