~Leaving~

I'm 10 today! Link is 14 and we're finally leaving. We're finally leaving the Kokiri Forest. We get to start our adventure and see everything we can. Mind you Vienne and Stu aren't too thrilled but they know Dmitri would find a way to leave with us.

"Are you ready?" Link asked us

We were standing at the tunnel entrance to Kokiri Forest.

"Yeah...wait! Dmitri, did you do it? I didn't hear him yet," I said

"Do what?" Link asked sternly. The older he got, the more parent-like he became. It wasn't as much fun to let him in on some of our pranks anymore. Even though he did teach us to begin with.

"AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!" We heard from far off.

Link couldn't help but laugh as he pushed us through. We fell down laughing on the midway bridge

"What'd you do?" Link asked

"Dmitri put my bubble potion in the water to Mido's house" I laughed

"You never should have let her go to that apothecary mate," Dmitri said

"Ahem" we all stopped or tried to and got up to look at Saria. "Could you two give us a minute?" she asked Dmitri and I.

We continued on through the rest of the runnel. I knew that Link and Saria had always been best friends. Dmitri was more mine than Link's. A few minutes later, he came out but his bag was slightly more full.

We didn't ask and instead walked out of the last bit of wood and I gasped at the marvelous wonder laid before my feet. I'd only read about the vastness that was Hyrule but this was breathtaking. I'd never seen anything like it. I couldn't see the ranch a far way ahead. The river was to the right and flowed right to the castle. Death Mountain erupted in the distance and shook the ground. To the left I knew was Lake Hylia but the hills hid it from view.

"Wow" we all said. I stood between my boys about a head shorter than them.

Link pulled out a map of Hyrule and I pointed out all the places

"So, where to first?" Dmitri asked

"I think Lon Lon first. Then we can span out from there," I suggested.

"Good idea"

We set out up the hill toward the enclosed ranch. It took all day but then the smell of horses started filling the air, as we got closer. In all truth, I'd never seen a horse. I was filled with excitement and anticipation.

We walked up the hoof beaten path and looked up smiling at the normal sized buildings. I saw the caged arena area and many horses running around. They were magnificent creatures. Someone was singing inside the stables to the right. Link pulled out what I recognized as Saria's ocarina and he copied the tune.

Suddenly a horse neighed and burst out running up to Link. He cowered but the horsed nickered and nudged him. A red-haired girl came running out with a blonde girl in riding clothes following. They were relieved to see the horse was all right and even more to see it hadn't trampled anyone. Seeing everything was all right they introduced themselves.

"Hello, I'm Malon" the red-haired girl said. "And this is Ze—ow!"

I noticed the blonde elbowed Malon

"I'm Zee. And you are?"

Link and Dmitri were speechless. Link was staring at Zee and Dmitri at Malon. Zee? Hmm. Malon didn't say 'zee' she said 'zeh' which meant she didn't finish. Images flashed across my eyes and Zee was dressed up like...oh! It's Princess Zelda!

"Ugh, sorry about them" I said, "This is Link and Dmitri. I'm Saira"

I nodded my head

"I'm sorry if Epona scared you. I guess she liked your playing" Malon said "So, what brings you to Lon Lon Ranch?"

"We're from the Kokiri Forest," I said seeing my boys were still at a loss for words.

"Really? So you're a faery boy?" Malon said to Dmitri who still couldn't take his eyes off her.

I elbowed both of them but it didn't have any effect.

"Yes, this is our first time away. We've been planning to venture throughout all of Hyrule. This was our first stop but I don't know if I can get them to go anywhere else"

The two girls laughed and Link and Dmitri snapped out of it.

"Would you to take a ride faery boy?" Malon asked

That's where it all started. And I'm pretty sure that's where Link fell in love. They didn't ride that night or any night while we were there. Most of their time was spent staring. They were pretty disappointed when we needed to leave a few days later. We were heading to Lake Hylia, which I was excited about because I was in love with swimming.

"Goddess I'm tired," I said collapsing on the ground in protest. Link and Dmitri were still full of energy.

"Oh, c'mon Saira. We can still get another few miles in before dusk" Link said

"I'm not moving and you can't make me"

I didn't move. The moved for me because the next thing I know, they picked me up and carried me. If it weren't so bouncy, it would have been relaxing. We made camp that night. Link had given me a magic bag I could easily fit two tents in.

"Saira, why'd you bring two?" Link asked irritated

"I'm a girl and we need certain comforts"

I stubbornly went in my tent knowing in about 5 seconds they'd be begging me to come out and start a fire. They were lazy and they knew I was good at magic and could do it. 5...4...3...2...

"Saira!"

"No!"

"Saira!"

"No!"

"SAIRA!"

"WHAT?!" I said sticking my head out.

He smiled nervously and flicked his eyes toward the woodpile. I scowled and before he even turned around there was a roaring fire. Soon the smell of sausages filled the air. I came out and grabbed a plate as if nothing had happened.

"So, after Lake Hylia, then where?" Dmitri asked

"We can try the desert," Link said

"Are you both stupid? The Gerudo still despise Men"

"But we're with you"

"So?"

"Trust me, Saira, we'll be fine" Link said

"Wow" we all said in unison. The lake was absolutely beautiful. It lacked inhabitants but the view made up for everything and especially the clear water. It was a sight to behold and we just stood there staring.

To my left was a small island fishing shop and then a garden on the mainland. Ruined buildings with intricate carvings were by a part of the shore. An odd shaped house was toward the middle of my view then there was a small waterfall where Gerudo River flowed into Lake Hylia.

Spits of land stuck up out of the lake and in a few spots and bridges connected them with the mainland. There was a mangled tree in the middle largest spit. Two pillars stuck out of a separate piece of land.

"Wow" I said again

"I think Saira's in heaven," Dmitri muttered to Link

"Wow"

"Yep, she's in love. We'll be lucky to get her away," Link said

"Wow"

That was all I could say as we explored. We were getting hungry so we headed over to the garden to get some food.

"Hey, I got a watermelon" Dmitri said "One oughtta be enough for all of us"

"Hey!!" Someone yelled but it wasn't me, Link or Dmitri.

Something suddenly smacked me in the back of my head and I scrambled forward. When I looked a scarecrow was scowling at us.

"That's not yours! Put it back!"

"Whose is it?" I asked

"Mine"

"You can't eat it" Dmitri pointed out

"It's still mine" The scarecrow reached and grabbed the watermelon but Dmitri wouldn't let go. Link joined in to help and his ocarina from Saria fell out of his bag.

"Hey! An ocarina!" The scarecrow said letting go "Lay a beat on me baby"

We stared in utter confusion.

Link abided to the strange scarecrow and played a couple of songs he knew like the one Saria taught him.

"Wow, I haven't heard such great music in a long time. Name's Bonooru."

"Saira"

"Link"

"Dmitri" we listed off

"You all siblings?"

"Nah, just the two" Dmitri said

"Sorry about the watermelon. I guess I get a little jealous that I can't eat it"

"S' okay" Link said "Thanks though"

We started to walk of.

"Wait! You two seem really familiar"

"First time here. Don't know why we would be," I said

"Ah, I remember, you look jut like that Sheikah, or was he Hylian, heck he mighta even been Gerudo. He kept changin'. Anyway, he came here a long time ago"

This got all our attention

"When did you see him?" Link asked

"Oh, years and years ago. Before the Great War, he came here, and then during it he was a general. Came and saw me a couple o' times he did. Said how he married a pretty little thing. She was friends with one o' the old the princesses long ago."

"What happened to him?" I asked

"No one knows. He went behind enemy lines and was never seen again"

"What was his name?" Link asked

"Artanis. That's all he said" Bonooru said, "So, you know 'im at all?"

"Now, but I kinda wish I did" I said. Link and I walked off ignoring Bonooru's calls. Dmitri gave us some distance. Finally I just sat down on the grass and Link plopped down right beside. I needed to think about what I just heard.

"Do you think—?"

"—Maybe"

There was a long silence, interrupted by an explosion inside the old crooked house.

"What the—"

We ran to it and opened the door to be greeted by a cloud of gray smoke. We coughed hoarsely and waved away the smoke.

"He-llo?" I coughed "Geez, yala onna en' vilya" (An elvish wind spell)

Wind started blowing all the smoke out until the room was clear. There was man lying in the middle of the room. I ran over and checked to see if he was even alive.

"He's okay" I said "Mister?"

He blinked a few times then sat up

"Ugh, I knew I added the frog's blood too soon" Then he looked up as if he just noticed we were there. "Who are you?"

I helped him up then said, "I'm Saira, my brother Link and friend Dmitri"

"What happened?" Dmitri asked

"Yeah and what is this place?" Link added

"This is my laboratory where I study the components of minerals and decipher the reactions through experimentation"

"Saira, translation please" Link said

"He mixes stuff together to get something new"

"Ohh" Link and Dmitri said. I may be 10 but I'm quite learned.

"And what happened was the molecular compounds had an intensified reaction"

"The mix exploded," I said before they asked "You said you mixed the frog's blood too soon. Did you know you never add blood mixtures until the concoction stops boiling?"

"My girl I—" he started rudely "-I actually didn't know that" he looked at me like I was an angel sent by the goddesses. "How did you know that?"

"There was an apothecary in the Kokiri Forest and I read every book there"

"Hmm. Care to teach me some?"

Link and Dmitri left in a heartbeat leaving me with this creepy old man. I spent a good portion of the day with him and after awhile it wasn't so bad. I even agreed to go back the next day.

I left the spooky house and saw thunderstorm clouds coming in. If I wanted a swim I'd need to do it now. But where did Link and Dmitri go?

"SAIRA!!"

I followed the yell to the waterfall but I saw no source. I smiled then squatted down just as a boy toppled over me from behind and fell head first into the water. When Dmitri came up I stood up and looked down at him.

"Nice try" I said. Suddenly someone pushed me from behind and I landed with a splash in the perfect water. I came up and glared evilly at my brother smiling above me.

"Did you forget about me?"

"No, I just had a lapse in memory"

I climbed out and took off my bad and clothes, but I had a suit on underneath. I dove back in the water and swam to the bottom and sat. Through the clear water I saw their smiles fade since I didn't come up then Link dove in after me. As he was caught in a cloud of bubbles, I pushed myself to the surface and waited for him.

His head popped up. "SAI—you little"

He swam toward me but I sank beneath the water again and eluded him. But then Dmitri got me. They were always good at ganging up on me, but we were all traitorous kids and would gang up on whoever was vulnerable at that moment so many times I had Link and Dmitri on my side again and vice versa. After several house of swimming, the sun had set and it was time to rest.

They both got onto me again about having my own tent until I brought up a good point.

"So you want me to change in front of Dmitri?"

That gave Link reason enough

That night it started drizzling and it didn't bother me. I wasn't afraid of a bit of rain. I lied on my cot and pulled off a necklace that had three things upon it and I never knew how I got them. There was a locket covered in eccentric designs, and then a silver ring with Elvish writing and a single stone. Last was a small amethyst I turned into a charm.

I'd examined them many times. The ring and amethyst fit perfectly into the locket but nothing ever happened when I put them together. I felt it had something to do with the inscription on the locket. The tiny writing said.

"Only when hope is gone and darkness rules will the power be unleashed," I said from memory. The rain started coming down like hail and broke my stare. I was starting to get scared and my stupid jerk of a brother isn't decent enough to come check on me.

Thunder and lightening cracked and I high tailed it out of there so fast I hardly got wet as I burst into Link, and Dmitri's tent. Link lifted his arm up keeping his eyes closed and smiling. I saw they left a space for me. I snuggled up beside him and he put his arm over me.

I guess he's not too much of a jerk.
