TITLE: Maybe In Another Life
RATING: PG
PAIRING: Clark/Chloe
DISCLAIMER: I own nothing

The incredible full moon that lazily hung in the star studded sky cast silver streaks on Chloe Sullivan's beautiful porcelain face. She lightly swung back and forth on the old rubber swing in the deserted park in the middle of Metropolis and let her feet scrape against the grainy sand below her. Everything about that night and that moment had a sense of innocence and a child like quality to it. Chloe laughed to herself knowing full well that she was anything but a child anymore. She let the crisp fall air gently blow around her slender frame. College was over and it was time to move on and start a new life somewhere she had never been before. Of course she was scared out of her mind but it was something that she had to do, not for anyone else but for herself.

Clark silently watched his best friend, the woman he loved, sitting on the old swing. He smiled, a smile mixed with both happiness and pain. He shoved his hands in his pockets and walked across the park towards Chloe. He sat on the swing next to her and watched her waiting for her to say something.

"Why'd you come?" She asked, slightly surprised to see him there considering they had just had a catastrophic fight only a few hours before and broken up.

"I needed to see you, just one last time before you left." He confessed.

"I thought you hated me because I was leaving."

"Chloe I don't hate you. I could never hate you. I was just upset because you were leaving. We both said a lot of hurtful things that we didn't mean."

"Yeah sorry I broke your glass football trophy by the way."

"That's ok," he laughed, "I never liked it anyway."

Clark looked up towards the sky and a big grin spread across his face.

"What are you so happy about?" She asked him.

"I was just remembering the 8th grade."

"The 8th grade?"

"Yeah I remember the day we met like it was yesterday. I remember when you kissed me up in my loft. That was my first kiss you know."

Chloe sweetly smiled t him. She got up from the swing and he got up from his.

"I have to go my flight is in a few hours." She said, looking down not wanting to meet his gaze.

Clark reached out and tucked a stray strand of her hair behind her ear. Just the single touch made Chloe Shiver. Clark put his hands on her waist and pulled her into a warm, strong embrace. Silent tears began falling down Chloe's face as she rested her head against Clark's chest.

"I love you Chloe. I don't think I can live without you."

"Yes you can. Hey you'll probably get a great job at the Daily Planet and end up marrying Lois." She joked.

"Hah yeah right." He scoffed.

"Clark whatever you do with your life it's going to be amazing I mean your superman."

"Why do you always call me that?" He was curious but didn't mind that she did call him that.

"Because that's just who you are."

"I kind of like it." He smiled down at her.

There was a moment of silence between them and Clark leaned down and softly kissed Chloe. The kiss slowly became more passionate and was filled with pure love and desperation. They finally broke apart and rested their foreheads against each other.

"Clark I love you, I always have and I always will but you have to let me go."

"I can't." He said pulling her closer and wrapping his arms tighter around her.

"You have to." She said placing a sweet final goodbye kiss on his lips.

Chloe removed herself from his embrace and began walking away. Clark watched her go as he felt his heart begin to rip apart.

"Will I ever see you again?" He yelled out.

"Maybe in another life."

She winked at him and turned and walked away. A small smile pulled at Clark's mouth and he laughed knowing that she would always be the only one that truly held his heart.
