Wow... you guys will not believe where the inspiration for this one came from. Get this. I got the idea...

From honors English.

SCHOOL HAS FINALLY HELPED ME IN SOMETHING I ENJOY! HURRAH!

Anyways, yes, this story came to me in my english class during a class discussion. We were talking about what makes a hero (cuz we just started the Odyssey... woot woot...) and I thought... OMR! This is perfect! ...So... yeah...

Disclaimer: I own nothing... wait... nope, nada. You'd know if I did, because 1) the yami's and hikari's would be paired up and 2) Anzu would be a lonely, lonely little girl

What is an antagonist?

Simply put, the antagonist is the bad guy, the wretched person, the one that it is the protagonist's mission to stop.

So what is a protagonist?

The hero of a story.

...So what makes a hero?

Is it super powers? No, though many of the classic heroes everyone thinks of do.

Is it amazing strength? Not necessarily. Sometimes that is the case, but there are plenty of heroes who have normal human qualities.

Is it a cool costume? Of course not! Though, so many believe this to be true.

Alas, it is none of these things.

It's what's inside, as corny as it made sound.

So what makes a hero?

A hero is someone who is selfless, patient, honest, compassionate, loving, caring, respectable, willful, determined, responsible, understanding, kind, friendly, good natured, and giving.

Hm...

There was a boy named Ryou Bakura. He was all these things. Selfless? Compassionate? Willful? Giving? Ha! He had been ready to give up his soul three times, just to save his "friends", a group of people who thought he was evil and wanted him dead. Determined? Caring? Understanding? Ryou had fought against, and had even tried to save the darkness that swelled inside him. He was all the things a hero should be, and more.

But Ryou Bakura was not the hero of the story, oh no.

That lovely title went to one of his so-called friends, Yuugi Mutou. Mind you, Yuugi possessed all these qualities, too, but he was no better a person than the white-haired boy.

He just got lucky. At fifteen, little Yuugi finished an ancient puzzle that he had been given seven years ago, releasing the spirit of an ancient and wise pharaoh, who had a mission.

But, besides that, why was Yuugi the hero and not Ryou? After all, normal people could be heroes, too?

The simple answer is that fate screwed Ryou Bakura over.

For not only was Ryou not the protagonist, he was the antagonist.

And for what?

Nothing he could do about.

Fate had dealt him a low blow. While innocent Yuugi had been given a kind, loving, righteous other half, Ryou had been given... Bakura.

Bakura. The King of Thieves. The Stealer of Souls. The Spirit of the Sennen Ring.

The man who controlled Ryou's life.

Who ruined it.

Bakura, who had waged war against Yuugi and his yami, who had made Yuugi-tachi hate his host.

Ryou often wondered what he had done to deserve this? Had he committed horrible crimes in a past life (well, of course he knew the answer, but that wasn't really him, was it)?

It didn't really matter in the end.

Ryou Bakura was selfless, patient, honest, compassionate, loving, caring, respectable, willful, determined, responsible, understanding, kind, friendly, good natured, and giving.

And had anyone bothered to notice, they would've seen that Ryou Bakura was a hero.

Hmm... I don't know how I feel about this one... I guess it's kinda so-so. I don't know. You tell me what you think.
