Dark Corners

If only you knew the truth…

...and the other voice

But what is the truth? Don't you know?

Always searching for Dark Corners

Hidden away…

You don't know but to hide

... ...can't feel but to shine

...cry not yet within

... ...hurt not out loud

Revealing only to those dark corners

...your true self

... ...however lost you are

And in this dream I tell you

...you are perfect in your flaws

And he can love your faults

...if you can love yourself

I love you, Helga, and I wouldn't have it any other way

Author's Notes: (I don't own "Hey, Arnold!") This is one of those "stories that never were". The lines of this poem were meant to be revealed little bits at a time, until the poem became complete, and they were to appear during dreams that Helga was having. These are the notes I had made in preparation for writing the story (that I never got around to doing): "Helga searches for hiding places; her secret burdens her more than she realizes"; "Helga starts having strange dreams and in them she's always searching for something, the perfect hiding place, but really it's herself that she's looking for. Scenes with Phoebe, a couple of subplots, an Arnold and Gerald subplot (the world does not revolve around Arnold, except in Helga's mind), very dreamlike i.e. her strange visions." I like the poem, so I decided to share it, even though the story for it never came to be.

Oh, and one side note, the ellipses (...)at the beginnings of a line are there for aesthetic spacing purposes, not pauses. Those at the ends of lines are part of the poetry as pauses.
