Part 1: The Pillar's of Creation...

Unknown: Pillar's of Creation
July: Calendar Day 7

In a flash of light, Harry and Nicholas appeared. Harry's foot was outstretched in mid-step, causing him to falter briefly. Nicholas placed a wrinkled hand on his shoulder, stopping Harry's step. As he regained his balance, he took a moment to look at the place he landed. Harry's eyes started to widen, little by little, as he observed the area...

The area they landed in was a large, deserted clearing, stretching out for several hundred feet. Great tree's rose magnificently into the air, towering above both of them by several hundred feet. An intricate weaving of branches, tree limbs and leaves formed a dome-like canopy high above them, blocking the above from view. The branches were all a dark, healthy, brown color, as the leaves were a lush, deep green; somehow, he could observe all these sights, even with the dome like canopy...

This, though, wasn't was caused the young wizard's eyes to widen. Directly in the center of the large, forested clearing, a massive obelisk structure stood, built from a dark material, giving the obelisk a deep black color. Etched into every inch of the black surface, hundreds of thousands of soft, glowing blue runes were carved. They seemed to give off the eternal light... this, it seemed, was the source of the mysterious light.

He dragged his eyes away from the magnificent obelisk and observed the rest of the pillars. From the center pillar, the rest of them all fanned out, counter-clockwise, still made from the mysterious black stone. Harry noticed, though, that each pillar grew smaller... as it continued, each pillar also seemed to grown older. It wasn't noticeable at first, but, eventually, it started to show... as he reached the last pillar, it was almost totally covered in dust and grime, while only standing a few inches out of the ground.

The silenced streched on for a moment before Nicholas cleared his throat with a cough, turning Harry's wide, emerald eyed gaze towards him. Harry blinked slowly a few times, his eyes dilating again and returning to their normal size, but he was still in a contemplative silence...

"As I'm sure you've noticed, Harry, this is the Pillar's of Creation," said Nicholas with a sweeping gesture of his wrinkled hand. Harry nodded his head and continued to scan the pillars as Nicholas continued, "Each of the pillars is made out of obsidian, the black material which the pillars were crafted out of. Obsidian, while very hard to bring shape to, could hold an astronomical amount of magical power. As you can see, the wear and tear of the shear magical forces that are contained in every pillar start to strain on the material," said Nicholas, motioning towards the smallest, almost unnoticeable pillar.

Harry nodded in understand to Nicholas's explanation. He had seen the material described somewhere in a book he read, long ago, but he couldn't quite place his finger on it, but now... he had an explanation, even without asking his question directly. There was still something nagging him, though...

"What is the purpose of the pillars, Mr. Flamel? And what are those strange symbols for..?" asked Harry questionably. Nicholas looked at Harry... a gleam shone in his eyes. He was excepting the question.

"Ahh... the Pillar's of Creation... their purpose...? Everything," he said promptly. Harry stared at him like he'd grown a second or third head. Nicholas nodded his head. "Yes Harry, m'boy, that is the purpose of the pillars... everything. The muggle's believed their was one god, a single, monetary pantheon... but, it was all these, magnificent pillars," he said with another sweeping gesture of his hand. "The pillars are the incarnation of magic. Everything that was born — wither it be person, animal, plants or Dark Lords — they all started at the pillars. Even the muggle's and Squib's originated from the Pillar's of Creation. They are magic in it's purest form. With the power of the pillar's in your hands, it is believed you can make galaxies and destroy universes with a simple flick of your hand," he said. Harry looked at him disbelievingly. "Oh yes... Don't seem so surprised, Harry. There are forces more powerful at work here... More powerful then Dumbledore and... More powerful then Voldemort..." he trailed off, staring at the pillars with clouded, hazel eyes.

"But... If these forces are so powerful, why don't they take care of Voldemort..." Harry trailed off at the look on Nicholas's face.

"They can't, Harry, or they — or should I say it? — can't do anything to Voldemort. It seems this was one force that the Pillar's of Creation deemed untouchable by anyone but..." Nicholas trailed off again, his hazel eyes still clouded.

"Me," whispered Harry, the realization dawning on him... Only he could even touch Voldemort...

"Yes..." Nicholas whispered. He whirled around and stared passionately at Harry, "you. That's why your here: training... training to defeat and kill Voldemort once and for all. It seems there was a prophecy made before your birth between you and Voldemort... Dumbledore was supposed to tell you these contents and get you ready, but it seems he has rejected his duty, given to him by the High Council," he murmured the last part under his breath, almost inaudibly, thought, Harry heard the whispered word softly. Nicholas seemed to snap out of his own, memory induced, daze and stared at Harry again with the same, strange passion.

"But.." Harry whispered, ".. why is Voldemort after me? Why — since before I could walk — was Voldemort after me..? What does he want from me.. what is so special about me — Harry Potter, the Boy-Who-Lived — what is so special.." he whispered softly.

"The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches…" whispered Nicholas quietly. Harry turned towards him, shocked, but didn't interrupt as he kept speaking the haunting prophecy..

"…Born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies…And the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not.. And either must die at the hands of the other for neither can live while the other survives…The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies…" he finished quietly and started off at the pillars. Harry stared silently at Nicholas's back, stunned by the haunted words, spoken from the older man's lips... But, what did that mean for him?

What was his true destiny...? Was he just to be a pawn in the grand chest game, played by Albus Dumbledore — a man deluded by years and years of war — and Tom Marvolo Riddle — a half-blood with illusions of grandeur — or... Could he make his own path, branching out from both of the two men...

Only time would tell...
