Chapter 1:
The Other Type of Magic
A handsome young man was tapping his foot impatiently against the cold solid ground, bluish pink luscious lips set to a scowl whenever a freezing wind blew past his rigid form, dishevelling his neatly cut whitish blonde hair, causing his body hairs to stand on his pale skin as he shivered involuntarily, puffing white condensed breaths out of his nostrils, hands safely tucked into the warm pockets of his large white robe. Occasionally, he look his left one out to look at his wrist watch, only to grit his chattering teeth and put the hand back right away, his body hunching even more to protect himself from the merciless weather. "...Where the hell is she?" he muttered to himself in frustration.
Not long after that, an attractive young woman with bright hazel eyes ran to the man, her frizzy brown hair flowing backwards as she moved, her cheeks, partly hidden from the red and gold scarf she had wounded around her neck, flushed pink from the cold. She stopped short before the man and bent down to catch her breath.
"Why are you so late?" Draco Malfoy frowned at the female before him, his tone upset and a little whiny, "I'd been waiting for you out in the cold for at least fifteen minutes! Do you want me to kill me?"
"I'm really sorry, Draco," Hermione Granger replied after her breath slowed down, "I got hogged down in the Ministry. The aurors said that they'd caught sight of Harry near University of London yesterday, and they are going to investigate upon it today. It is important for us to find Harry-"
"I know it's important to find Potter, Hermione," Draco scowled even deeper, "but you'd promised! We'd made an appointment! I have to meet Martin sometime soon, you know. Besides, you were the one who wanted me to take you see him..." He huffed indignantly and crossed his arms in front of his chest.
"I'm really, really sorry, Draco…" Hermione said again, more apologetically this time, "I admit it's entirely my fault." She paused and then added quietly, "Though the reason why you didn't use warming charms-"
"I heard that, Granger! I'm banned from my wand, remember?" Draco retorted, voice full of annoyance, "Something about Dumbledore wanting me to practice wandless magic more. Such bullshit!"
"Don't be angry…" the brunette tried to soothe the blonde's wrath. "Aren't we already late, thanks to me? Shouldn't we get going?"
"You're right." The former Slytherin stopped his ranting and pulled out a strip of yellow ribbon from his warm pocked. A portkey, no doubt. He let Hermione hold the other end of the ribbon before asking her to activate the portkey with her wand. She obeyed, and before once could do so much as a blink, both of them disappeared from the deserted Hogsmeade street, pulled by the familiar navel-jerking sensation to their destination.
-----------------------------
The room they arrived to was decorated mainly in greenish grey and ivory, unique, and very peaceful. As both of them were warming up and nursing their unhappy stomachs from the unpleasant yanking sensation, a cough brought their attention to a person sitting on the leather couch opposite to them.
It was a beautiful girl, an Asian, with big exotic dark eyes, pale skin and petite body wrapped in long white Shanghai dress, slits up to the thighs, her long black hair tied to a high bun on the right side of her head, the remains plaited neatly to different-sized braids. She eyed Draco coolly before standing up. "Welcome, Mr Malfoy. I have been waiting for you."
"Long time no see, Aria," Draco smiled at the girl. There was no doubt that he had known her quite long, long enough to smile friendlily at her. The reason why she insisted on calling him formally was a mystery to Hermione. The brunette was looking at the other female thoroughly, feeling a little off at the aura the Asian was giving, when the girl looked back at her on the eyes. "And this is?" Aria asked Draco.
"Hello, I'm Hermione Granger," the hazel-eyed woman introduced herself and offered her hand, "Nice to meet you."
The black-haired female only stared at her for the longest of time before giving out a small nod of approval and bowed to her. "I am Li Aria. Nice to meet you too, Ms. Granger."
Hermione withdrew her hand, feeling slightly hurt, before turning to look at her male companion, who touched her shoulder to grab her attention. "Don't feel offended. It's just Aria's way of introducing herself. She's a rather conservative Asian, right are you not, Aria?" Draco grinned at her.
Aria only looked away. "Please follow me, sir and miss." She walked out of the room and into a corridor.
As the three of them were walking along the long and rather dark corridor, they were in complete silence. The little lady in front was so proper and the place so quiet, it felt wrong to make a noise. So Hermione waited until they went into a room, most likely a study, judging by the books and table and few couches in front of the fireplace, whose theme was again, mostly greenish grey and ivory, before she let out a breath she didn't know she'd been holding. Aria excused herself to get the person Draco and Hermione was supposed to meet and the brunette fell to the couch. "I'd die if I were to endure any more of that silence," she grunted. "Who was she, anyway? The head of maids?"
"Maids?" Draco shook his head as he joined her on the couch, "you forget that we use Elves for servants, don't you? No, Aria isn't a maid! She's-"
The blonde never got to finish that sentence, because at that instance, an albino man who was nearing his thirties entered the room, his short hair very white, his skin very pale, and his eyes purplish blue. He was tall and rather thin, but he was undoubtedly handsome, with fine aristocratic features. As he entered the room, the quiet Asian followed him, carrying a tray of tea and cakes, and was setting the food down on the low table as he stood in front of Draco, who'd gotten up from the couch by then, and shook his hand friendlily. "How's my junior today?" the albino smiled.
"Very fine, Martin," the grey-eyed man replied before grinning, "I want you to meet my friend, Hermione Granger. Hermione, this is Martinis Nott, Theodore's big brother. They're eight years different, and Martin was the valedictory and Head Boy in his year and the last Slytherin Head Boy in Hogwarts before me."
Martin smiled politely at Hermione and took her hand in his large, warm one. "Nice to meet you, Granger."
Hermione smiled back. "Nice to meet you too, Nott."
They sat down on the couch, and Draco's casual smile disappeared. It was time to get down to business. Hermione pulled out her wand from her pocket. "I'll cast a Silencing spell on the-"
"There is no need," Martin waved his hand, and turned to Aria, who nodded, her face expressionless, and closed her eyes. Her aura shifted, and the string bracelet around her small right wrist that had a small black crescent-moon-shaped pendant attached to it, transformed to a fan, the pendant dangling from its end. She pulled out a yellow strip of paper with some symbols written on it, and touched it with her fan. "Kuukan, shorai!" she muttered, and a translucent hemisphere was formed around the four of them, sealing them off from the outside world.
As the ex-Gryffindor looked around in wonders, Martin made himself more comfortable on his couch and explained. "We're in a very powerful ward, almost cutting us out of the world. Anything said or done in here cannot be seen or heard outside, and vice versa. This ward can also protect us from many spells. We mustn't forget that portraits talk too." He smiled, "it's an Asian magic, in case any of you are wondering. So, what's the news from the Order?"
Martinis Nott was a Death Eater and a spy for the Order even before he was initiated two years ago. He had been passing much information to the Order about Voldemort's development. Draco came that day to discuss about Theo and his upcoming initiation, which was very near, and how to possibly avoid it. Hermione came to see if this Martinis was a trustworthy guy, and so far, as she was watching him speak, she could conclude that he was indeed, a loyal, trustworthy member of the Order.
Unknowing to Hermione, someone was also watching her every move, analysing her characteristics with dark exotic eyes.
"I'll try to make him delay it, but I can't guarantee that you, and Theo, can avoid it. In fact, I don't think he can be swayed," Martin frowned. "Let's just pray that I can delay it long enough until the war breaks, so that you don't need to be initiated. I'll see what I can do. Severus knows this, doesn't he?"
Draco nodded. "He said he'll try, but you, as one of Voldemort's assigned strategists, a person close to the Inner Circle, should be able to convince him better."
"Again, I'll see what I can do," the twenty-seven-year-old man sighed, "The Dark Lord can be pretty strong-headed, you know. And cruelly at that. Pray for me, won't you, Draco?" Martin smiled softly, dissipating the tensions. "So, I take it the discussion is over? Potter's still not found, huh? That's troublesome. By the way, don't let the cake go to waste! Eat up! It's winter; you'll need a lot of fat to keep you warm."
"Er…thank you," Hermione remarked, "but I need to be back at the Ministry to help looking for Harry." She shot Draco a look. "You too, right, Draco?"
The blonde got the look. "Yeah, we should leave. I should give you some time to think of some strategies." The recently graduated witch and wizard stood up. "See you later, Martin."
Martin stood up too and signed for Aria to remove the ward. The female, who had been silent throughout the whole thing, obeyed. The albino then shook Draco and Hermione's hands good-bye. "See you later too, Draco, Granger."
They left that place through the fireplace this time, which was just as unpleasant as traveling by portkey. As the white blonde and the brunette got out of the fireplace at the Ministry of Magic, dusting ashes off their body, Hermione turned to Draco. "You're right. Nott's trustworthy."
"I told you," Draco said triumphantly, "he can be cunning, but when he can be utterly honest too. When I was small, he was the closest person to me after Severus. I look up to him a lot."
The hazel-eyed young woman muttered a 'yeah' before she frowned lightly. "I don't know about that Li Aria though. She's so quiet, undecipherable…and strong. Who's she, anyway? What did you want to say before you were interrupted by Nott?"
The former Slytherin laughed. "You're so suspicious. If I didn't know you, I'd say you are the Slytherin. You needn't worry about Aria. She's Martin's fiancée."
Hermione's eyes widened almost comically. "Fiancée? But it can't be! She can't be older than us, and he's twenty-seven. Why can't she be betrothed to Theodore instead, who is our age?"
"It's been like that since he graduated," the blonde remarked nonchalantly. "You noticed that even though Martin might be a great strategist and a real genius in the head, he's rather weak physically, right? He often falls sick as well. His magic isn't too brilliant either. Aria came from the strongest magical family in Asia. Actually, she's a Eurasian. Her father was Nott senior's friend. When her parents died, Nott senior decided to take her in. Even though she's a mix, her magic is more to Eastern magic. Thus she didn't need to go to school. She learned magic, and martial arts, by herself. She is to never leave Martin's side, to protect him from any sort of harm. She suits his needs. Besides, she doesn't deserve Theodore."
Hermione whipped her head. "Why?"
Draco grimaced. "No one knows the origin of her blood. Besides, she isn't a British."
"What's wrong with that?" the brunette asked, horrified by his bigoted ideas.
"Just…" Draco ran his hand through his white blonde hair, "Theo's going to be the next head of Nott family…so he cannot have a wife whose blood status is unknown…"
"Theodore is?" Hermione raised her eyebrow, "but Martinis is the oldest."
"Yeah…but he can't be the head of family with a frail body like that," the grey-eyed man said as if it was the most logical thing on earth.
'This is weird,' the muggle-born sighed under her breath, not understanding anything about the blonde next to her. He still hadn't completely changed his views, even though he had turned over to the Light on his seventh year in Hogwarts. She resolved to thinking about the petite dark-eyed girl again, and voiced her thoughts, "But isn't it unfair for Li Aria? She's more like Martin's personally bodyguard than anything, if you ask me. And they're more than eight years different!"
Draco made a comment about 'she should thank the Gods to be accepted in Nott's pureblooded family' and Hermione decided to shut up. It was no use talking to a bigoted person…
------------------------------
As Draco and Hermione disappeared from the fireplace, Martin turned to his young Asian fiancée. "So how's Granger?" he asked, and gestured her to sit on his lap.
Aria obeyed. The man that was engaged to her eight years ago kissed her on the lips as soon as she straddled his legs and she replied the kiss tenderly before trailing more butterfly kisses down to his neck, her slender fingers caressing him through his clothing. "She's a good woman," the dark-eyed woman answered after a long bout of musings.
"Oh?" Martin moaned as his fiancée kissed a sensitive spot on his throat, "elaboration, please?"
"She watched you like a hawk, did you know?" Aria mumbled against his pale skin, "She's alert. She's suspicious. She's clever…" the Asian kneeled on the carpeted floor, dragged her head down to his stomach, ticking him with her hair through his shirt, and released his length from his pants, which was already hard and throbbing. He moaned loudly as she stroked it slowly. "She's stubborn, she can be quite cunning and very sly when she wants to…" Aria continued her analysis of Granger's personality while she was nuzzling his cock. "But she's undeniable good-hearted."
Martin groaned, voice thick with desire. "Can you please stop talking about her and do…something else? Please?"
Aria smirked, the evil smile looking good on her face, before she swallowed him whole, making him buck off the coach and moan her name throatily, the only name that had come out of his lips in this tone for some years.
