Raven stood in the middle of her dark room, unmoving. She stared at the mirror in front of her as thoughts of the night's events flashed through her mind. The screams kept replaying themselves like a broken record. She waited for someone to come for her, but knew no one would.
'It can't be true.' she though as she felt the burning of tears behind her eyes. 'He can't be gone.' she said in her head, trying to convince herself it was not true. She fought harder against the tears and the memories, but to no avail as the night's event replayed themselves in her mind.
Raven and Robin were walking down the street, a couple coming home from a usual outing. Nothing seemed amiss. Suddenly she was grabbed from behind, pulled into an ally, and pinned against a wall with a gun to her face. She was too stunned to move.
The man eyed the young woman with disgusting intent, but before he could do anything, a fist was slammed into his face with the force of a wrecking ball. He quickly turned and shot at his attacker and ran in the other direction as fast as he could.
A passerby heard the gunshot and went to see what had happened. They quickly called an ambulance when they saw the young man on the ground bleeding profusely.
Raven grasped his hand tightly as Robin's blood flowed freely from the wound in his chest and he was a ghostly white. Her mind knew he was dying, but her heart refused to accept it.
"Hold on." she said trying to keep her sorrow from showing. "Help is on the way." Her sense and soul were at war with each other, but she was the one who was losing.
He was beyond a feeling now. His senses were starting to go numb and his vision was staring to fail. "It's to late…" he breathed. "No, it's not! Don't say that! You can't go because I… I love you." she whispered.
It was getting darker and he knew he didn't have much time left. "I love you too…" he murmured. He shut his eyes on the world and his hand went limp in hers.
"No! Please! Don't leave me here!" she screamed. 'This can't be real! This is only a dream! I have to wake up!'
Raven stared into the mirror more intently and felt like crying, but refused to let the tears escape. She loathed the person looking back at her. 'He's dead and it's my fault.' a voice echoed in her head.
She couldn't bear to look into her own face any longer. "I hate you!" she yelled at her reflection, and slammed her fists into the polished glass. The mirror shattered, cutting her hands, but she didn't care. "It's all my fault! If it wasn't for me he'd still be alive and without him I can't live."
Raven picked up a large shard of glass from the floor, cutting at a gentle touch. "I won't live without you." she whispered slicing her wrists open and watching, the crimson liquid flow down her finger tips onto her glass strewn floor.
Not much time passed before she started feeling light headed. Her weight was becoming too great for her legs to hold up and she collapsed in a pool of blood and glass.
She was beginning to fade and her senses were failing. She let her tears free and smiled for the first time in what felt like a lifetime. Everything went black and with her last breath she uttered, "I'm coming Robin."
