Harry Potter, Trainee Enchanter
Prologue: The Clairvoyant
Today was darling duddikins' 10th birthday. Of course, they would want the best for darling Dudley. His birthday had to be perfect. The fat oaf couldn't even count the number of presents he had, which although was a lot, was only up to 34, Harry thought. They were bringing Dudley and his friend, Polkien Piers to the zoo. He himself was only coming along because Mrs Figg had hurt her leg.
The Zoo was a rather small one but it was more than what Harry had ever seen. Dudley was looking at the Boa Constrictor in the reptiles' section, trying futility to startle a reaction out of the enormous snake. He was whining to his father, wanting to see the snake move.
After Dudley and Polkien Piers were bored with the snake and moved to the other exhibits, Harry came up to it. He looked at the snake, saying more to himself than anyone, "I know how you feel. It must be terribly boring in here." To his surprise, the Boa Constrictor seemed to reply, raising itself up and nodding. Suddenly, Dudley shouted, " look! The freak is talking to the snake!" and rushed over, leaning against the glass.
Harry did not know what happened. One minute the glass was there and he was talking to the Boa Constrictor and the next Dudley and his friend were in the glass and the snake was free. The Boa constrictor hissed, thanks amigo, slithered away to freedom. Harry was glad that the snake escaped but feared what uncle Dursely would say.
Harry was about to try sneaking away when a strange woman grabbed his arm and said in a deep voice, with relief evident, "Finally! You don't know how long we have looked for you. Good! Cat will be happy that you have most of your lives intact. Watch out for danger. Be careful and I'll fetch you soon!"
Harry was dumbfounded. Why was this woman talking in a man's voice? What did they mean, most of my lives intact? Most importantly, why were they, whoever they were, looking for him? His thoughts raced. Could…could that silly hope he had when he was younger be true? Were they, whoever they were,long-lost relatives that were looking for him? His mind spun at the possibilities, the implications. Or would it be yet another disappointment?
" Oy! Who are you? What do you want?" Vernon shouted, breaking into Harry's thoughts. Getting no answer, he turned to Harry and spat "Boy! No more funny business from you. You better watch out or you'll get it from me!" He then turned around, striding away, trying to look imposing but not succeeding very well. Harry followed behind, muttering darkly " even if I did nothing, I'm always in the wrong…"
A/N: this is very short but I promise to make the other chapters longer. You don't need to have read the Chrestomanci series to understand this but I recommend it. It's great! Please give me some encouragement, as this is my first fic. Oh yeah, and please give some feedback on whether you want this to be a Dumbledore basher or not.
