Towards the Darkness

Tears are spilt,

Memories blocked out,

Hovering at the back of a broken mind.

Dreams come, unbidden,

Haunting thoughts force their way out.

Fear settles down,

Deep in the silence,

A warning is murmured, not heard, but felt.

Alone again.

She sighs, a feeling of unhidden despair,

One of relief and one of an unknown emotion.

'Maybe it's love?'

'No, it couldn't be!'

The pale one shakes her head,

Drags her frail body off the floor.

The uncaring, frozen floor.

'Like his eyes,' she thinks, 'Just like his eyes.'

'And his soul,' her last thought,

As she lets darkness overcome her wearying being,

Never noticing,

Seeing, the shadow lurking above her.

Waiting for this very moment,

Making his way towards the unaware angel,

Scarcely breathing,

As his fingers dance upon her soft face,

Icy, unfeeling eyes,

Taking in every detail possible,

Showing an emotion other than anger,

Regret and something else?

"You are wrong," he says, "I'm sorry."

His rough hand skims her cheek a final time.

He walks away,

Stopping in midstride,

He glances back once again,

She stirs,

A content smile rests upon her pouty lips,

He feels his own twitch upwards,

A true smile.

For once he listens to his heart.

'So this is what love is?'

He closes the door softly,

A smile still shown,

Not hidden like the others.

"Goodnight my sweet angel,"

Though whispered, his voice makes it,

All the way to the young beauty's ears,

The slumbering girl cracks an eye open,

Bursting with happiness,

And hope.

The figure walks away,

Towards the darkness,

"Pleasant Dreams..."
