Through The Tunnel
A/N: Ok, this was meant for homework, so yeah. Hezzie had already used the name 'Judith' in hers and we have the same teacher so in mine she was called 'Tracy' so if you see that anywhere, it's Judith. Ta! Oh yeah, it's in Grace's POV.
I sat in the cell, kicking a can on the floor, listening to another one of Tracy's stories. She had a nerve. It was because of her that I was in here in the first place!
"Piece of cake!" She had said! "We'll never get caught."
Huh! How wrong can you get! Honestly. I try to be nice for once; you know, help out a friend and look where it gets me! In a prison cell. Still. I suppose you want to know how it happened, don't you? Well…
I could feel the car rattling under me, like an old tractor with a flat tyre. We were on the run from prison, trying to be inconspicuous and we're in a car that sounds like it's got a pneumatic drill for an engine. We had it all planned out, the escape. We'd get on the Euro Tunnel, arrive in France, simple! Jude had a friend over there who said he'd sort us out once we got there. In theory, it was a piece of cake!
Tracy was in the passenger seat, her head bobbing along with the radio, which was flickering as we drove out of range. I was driving. We were going into the tunnel; the smell of petrol was intoxicating. Cars all around us were beeping their horns, shouting as though it would make them go faster. It seemed like there was no light apart from that coming from the headlights of other cars. It seemed to take forever moving. Judith said it was because I was anxious.
But then it was her turn to be anxious. Her head jerked up so I turned round to look at her.
"What's up?" I asked.
"Didn't you hear that?" She asked.
"Hear what?" I said, confused.
"That…siren" She stuttered.
"No…no, not now" We were almost at the end of the tunnel, we couldn't get caught now!
"But, its way back there! How do we know it's even after us?" I asked.
"Yeah. Yeah, I suppose so. Probably after some drug dealers or something."
We sat in silence for a bit after that. Both slightly uneasy, although the siren had long since stopped. The air still smelt, but this it was more of…rubber.
"Oh no…" I groaned. This was all we needed. With one almighty clunk, the car stopped. Drivers behind us started beeping their horns even more ferociously than before.
"Oh, great!" Judith shouted, kicking the side of the car.
"Is there a problem here?" Said a voice from behind us. I turned round to see who it was.
It was the police officer from the back of the tunnel. Great!
"Um, yeah. The car broke down." I muttered.
"Well, we can take you through the tunnel if you like?"
"Um…"
"Great! It's down here." The policeman pointed to the siren at the a few cars behind us. Jude scowled at me as if it was my fault.
We were outside the policeman's car, when all of a sudden, his colleague came out of the car and pinned Judith onto the side of the car.
"Wha-!" I started, but I was cut short by the other officer pushing me next to her. They were both handcuffing us.
We'd been caught. Busted.
So here we are. In a dark, dingy cell with no company but each other. And I'm not speaking to Judith because this is her fault so we sit in silence. I could count down the days until we're out of here! Yes, that'll pass the time. So. Only 9 months, 27 days to go…
