Okay, I wrote this after I saw the 1989 movie version where Robert Englund played the Phantom. It was the first movie I had ever seen of the Phantom of the Opera and I thought it was the best thing in the world…….. until I saw the 2004 musical with Gerard Butler. Mmmmmmmmm……. Gerard……
Anyway, now that I look back, the movie wasn't that good, and the Phantom was basically Freddy Krueger in a tux (mainly because it WAS, hehe).
So anyway, here's the poem I wrote for that movie version.
"I sold my soul to the Devil," he said.
A gasp came from the girl.
By candlelight she stared at him,
Her eyes like two black pearls.
"So people would love me," he muttered,
"But only for my music."
Her heart sank to the pit of her stomach,
While the metronome gave a tick.
"Sing with your heart, Christine," he said,
"And we can be together."
As he looked in her pearl eyes, he said,
"Because love and music are forever."
"Erik," she said with a tear in her eye,
"I love you so,"
And as the tear rolled down her cheek,
She said,"But now I have to go."
She turned around and took a step,
A hand grabbed her waist, bidding her to stay,
The phantom turned her and kissed her cheek,
Then let her walk away.
As she made her way down the stairs,
The tear stayed all along,
She heard him playing, in his room, just for her,
His unfinished song.
Let me know what you think.
