An Unwelcome Goodbye
This pain I feel, it is nothing
Compared to the feeling of loss.
I had to bring you back, somehow,
No matter what the cost.
I had slipped like ice into oblivion,
Mourning my memories of you.
Your smile, your laugh, how you made us right.
No replacement could ever do.
I lost my arm, and my leg, too.
We thought too highly of ourselves.
And because of this stuborn pride,
We had to endure a thousand hells.
We had failed to bring you back,
And weren't trying again in the end.
We realized that a copy would never amount,
For, your soul, we could not lend.
When I die for the things I've done,
I hope to see you again.
We can sit under that apple tree you liked,
And stand in the falling rain.
I would not care if it rained or snowed
Up in heaven where angels fly.
If I go there I wouldn't care
Because I'd be with you in my immortal life.
