Loving Her
Chapter 1- Home
He has loved and almost lost. He has saved and been saved. He has killed. He has survived. But his heart, just barely and only for her.
This was the happiest he had felt in months. It had taken a full 5 months for Lana to become well enough to be released from the hospital and to him. Clark held her hand and her bag as he led her up the cement steps to the door of their little townhouse. He only released her hand to poke the gleaming key into the lock and open the door. Clark closed his hand around Lana's as he looked back at her smiling face. He pushed the excitedly barking Krypto out of the way and ushered Lana into the house, shutting and locking the door behind them.
"I am so glad to be home!" Lana exclaimed as she sunk onto the couch and let the big golden retriever lick her. Clark sat down next to her, and pulled her halfway into his lap. Lana gave him a sweet smile and pressed her soft lips to his jaw then lips. Clark smiled as he held her tightly and Lana pet the top of Krypto's head until she fell asleep.
Clark woke up in a panic. Where was Lana? He super sped around the house several times before realizing that Krypto wasn't there and Lana had probably taken him on a walk. He lifted up a sticky note that had been left on the counter, with Lana's scrawl confirming his suspicions, but it didn't calm his nerves any. He found a coat quickly and ran out the door in search of her and Krypto.
As Clark rounded the corner to the Talon, he sighed in relief. Lana and Krypto walked out of the brightly painted doors and he ran up to her.
"Hey Clark! I didn't think you would be up this early..." she started cheerily, but noticing the frowned etched in his face she paused. "…Um, is everything okay Clark?"
"Lana, I told you I didn't want you to leave the house without me." He muttered in monotone. Lana tightened her grip on Krypto's leash as he tried to chase after a passing cat.
"I know Clark, but I wanted to visit your mother and Krypto needed a walk… you looked too peaceful to wake up. I know you haven't slept in weeks and don't deny it! Lois and Chloe told me." Clark started to object that he didn't need sleep but decided not to. Instead he said firmly,
"Lana, do you want to be killed! I almost didn't make it through last time, Lana…" His voice cracked as tears gathered in his eyes. "Do you know how hard it is to not be remembered by the girl you love for more than 5 months?" He looked down from her steady gaze shamefully. "Lana I couldn't even bare to visit you for fear you wouldn't remember me… Us… The undying love I have for you wasn't even enough. Please Lana, I'm sorry…" He finally raised his emerald orbs as she wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug. He pressed her to him and let only one more tear fall, glistening, into her newly shampooed hair, before pulling himself from the tight embrace to clutch her hand.
"Clark, I love you. Don't apologize either. I never would have been as strong as you. I don't know how you did it." He smiled softly and they walked home together silently, for there were no words needed.
A/N: So what do you guys think? I know it's short but I'm just getting started. Tell me if you think I should continue. I'm so sorry it took so long to be published.
