He could see she was struggling to hold it together and he couldn't bear to see her like this. She was leaning up against the wall next to the sickbay hatch. He could see it in her eyes. Cottle hadn't given her good news. His heart broke for her. He went over and put an arm around her. She fell into his arms overcome by emotion. "Laura, you shouldn't do this here. Can you walk?" She simply nodded.

He helped her to his quarters. She was coming for dinner that evening so, the crystal vase on his table was filled with her favorite flower, pink roses. He helped her over to the couch. Her cheeks were tear stained and more tears were freely flowing.

He sat down next to her and held her tight. "What did he say, Laura?" His only answer was a wail and more tears running down her face. He knew what it meant. "You need to calm down. You'll make yourself sick it you keep it up." He kissed he on the forehead. He got up and retreated into his small bathroom. He came back moments later holding her blue silk pajamas and matching bathrobe.

She looked at the items. "You know how to get to me." Her voice was barely a whisper.

He smiled at her. He walked over to her and extended a hand. She stood her legs were shaky. "Can you make into the bathroom?"

She nodded and took the pajamas and bathrobe. "Go change, you don't need to go back to work right away and neither do I." She walked into the bathroom and shut the door.

He made her a promise the day she returned to the fleet. A promise no one knew anything about. He told her he would be with her until the end.

They were involved that was also a secret. How much longer did he have with her? He had come to rely on her and she on him. Whenever she needed him, he was here for her. She came to visit numerous times to escape the office. She left some of her things with him. He kept them hidden from view but they were here so that she could come spend time with him as Laura Roslin and not as the President of the Twelve Colonies.

She came out of his bathroom wearing her pajamas and bathrobe. She went to the couch and she curled up against him. "I don't know what I would do without you. I'm so sorry you have to go through this. I have very little time. Weeks, a month at the outside." The words were barely a whisper.

"Ssssh." He tightened his embrace as the full force of what she said hit him. She was leaning against his chest that was a good thing. She didn't need to see the tears in his eyes.

"I'm here till the end Laura, you can't get rid of me."

"I wouldn't even try."
