Gone for Good

She had really always loved him, even though she never said anything about it.

Hermione Granger was sitting on the balcony of her million dollar home, thinking of her best friend. Her funny, adorable, wicked chess player of a best friend.

Of course, she was thinking about Ron.

Even though Hermione had just gotten married to Viktor Krum, the most successful Quidditch player in history, and she was at her wedding reception, she was not happy in the least. In fact, she was as far from happy as humanly possible.

She had not even wanted to marry Viktor in the first place. But he was the only one she could turn to: Harry had Ginny, and Ron…well, even if she did want Ron (which she did), she couldn't have him anyway. Why? Because Ron Weasley was killed by Lord Voldemort.

Flashback

"Say goodbye, you filthy Mudblood!" Lord Voldemort shouted, his wand pointed at Hermione, ready to fire the killing curse at her.

"NO!" Ron shouted as he dove out of nowhere in front of Hermione and knocked the wand out of Voldemort's hand, sending them both sprawling to the ground.

"Why you insolent little-" Voldemort started, but stopped when he saw Ron getting up off the ground, and his wand inches from his right hand.

"I'll get you, you disgusting excuse for a Muggle!" Voldemort said, getting up too, and pointing his wand once again at Hermione.

"How many times do I have to tell you? HERMIONE IS A WITCH!" Ron exploded, his anger at the Dark Lord bubbling to the surface, completely overcoming his fear.

Ron bolted so fast Voldemort didn't even see him coming. In a burst of speed, Ron rammed the Dark Lord hard in the stomach, and sent him flying to the ground so hard he got the wind knocked out of him.

Realizing that Voldemort was unable to move or speak any incantations, Ron unleashed the hatred that he had been bottling up for the past seven years onto Voldemort, and exploded.

"You can take Cedric," Ron began boldly, "you can take Sirius," Ron said, and his voice trembled a little, "and you can even take my own brother Percy," Ron said, his voice beginning to crack, "but you will never, ever take Hermione away from me."

"Never, ever come near my Hermione ever, EVER again," Ron said in a deadly whisper as he pulled his wand out of his pocket and pointed it at Voldemort for the last time.

"AVADA KEDAVRA!" Two voices shouted in unison as a flash of bright green light covered the landscape. When Hermione opened her eyes, all that was left of Ron and Voldemort were two giant craters side-by-side.

End Flashback

As Hermione remembered the way Ron had stood up for her in his last moments on Earth, tears started to well up in her eyes, and she realized that if Ron had lived to tell the tale of how he defeated Lord Voldemort, he would've gotten the one thing that he always wished for: fame and fortune.

"I miss you, Ron," Hermione said in barely a whisper, looking up at the stars.

"Where are you, Ron? Come back to me…" Hermione said in a trembling voice, a bit louder this time.

A single, solitary tear fell down her cheek, and, overcome with emotion, Hermione cried out for the last time.

"I LOVE YOU, RON!"

…But when no one answered, Hermione knew for sure that she was never going to see Ron again. That she would never be able to say that she was sorry for all the fights she started, never be able to become more than friends with him, and never be able to have Ron love her like she loved him.

And she knew that no matter how hard she tried, she would never get Ron back, because he was gone for good.

And she disappeared into the party, quietly whispering, "I'm sorry, Ron…"
