Finally Katie heard Leanne's snores. It had only taken her and the other Fourth Year Gryffindor girls two hours to fall asleep. Rather than use up more time getting dressed, Katie pulled her school robe over her pajamas and tiptoed out of the girls' dormitory.
There was a handful of Fifth and Seventh years studying for their exams in the common room, but luckily Angelina and Alicia were not among them. Katie knew from previous experience that Filch would be patrolling the Ravenclaw Tower at this time, but she kept a careful watch out for Mrs. Norris as she made her way to the assignation point.
Montague was already waiting in the Astronomy Tower when Katie arrived there. "You're late," he said. His voice sounded deeper than usual. He was probably getting a cold. It was freezing out here this late at night.
"Like you've never kept me waiting," Katie said. She threw her arms around his neck, tilted her face up, and waited to be kissed. She didn't have to wait long.
Montague was extra aggressive tonight. Katie turned her head away. "I need to breathe."
"Breathe later," Montague murmured, grasping her chin and turning her face back to him. His lips were a mere inch away from hers when the clouds moved, freeing the moonlight.
Marcus Flint. It wasn't Montague, it was Flint. She'd been kissing Flint. She was still pressed up against Flint's hard body.
"Bell. What a surprise," Flint said, not sounding terribly upset. His hand was still on her breast.
Katie swatted Flint's hands away and stepped back, putting a safe distance between them. "Why didn't you say something?" she hissed.
"I was expecting a very friendly Sixth Year Hufflepuff," Flint said. "You threw yourself at me."
"I didn't know it was you," Katie protested.
"Out of curiosity, who were you supposed to meet?"
Katie didn't bother to answer him. She walked to the stairs without a second look at him.
"You can stay. No one would ever know," Flint said.
"Good night, Flint." She was not tempted. Not in the least. Not at all. Never.
