Casper awoke in a cold sweat. He ached for breath, but found it harder and harder every time he tried to fill his "lungs". He got out of bed and fumbled around for the light. After a while of roaming in the darkness without any success of finding the lights, he floated over to the doors that lead out onto the balcony. Gliding through the glass doors, the cold December air hit his face. He could feel it, but it was like it was not really hitting him. It was just like that for ghost. They could feel it, but it was like a distant dream. It was there but it was like it was happening to someone else and they were just getting the left overs. It was a wonder that his uncles ever got drunk. They would have to drink twice as much as humans, but the Trio could do it. They were just that good.

Casper looked out into the night. Snow had fallen already, covering the front yard like a winter wonderland. Casper hated the snow. It was too cold, too unforgiving for his taste. But everyone else in the house didn't have to know that.

" Casper? Are you ok?" came a sweet voice from the door way.

" Oh, um... Kat I didn't mean to wake you... I had a bad dream." Casper said, trying not to show the depression in his voice.

" Oh, do you want to talk about it?" Kat whispered as if not wanting to wake anyone else in the house.

"Um, no... you need your sleep and plus it is freezing out here. Go back to bed." Casper said as he floated away from the railing and towards the glass doors.

" Casper you seem... distant. Are you sure you are okay?" Kat said, placing her arm on his shoulder.

" All things seem distant, there is nothing we can do about it." Casper mumbled under his breath.

" What? Casper?" Kat followed Casper into the room.

" Nothing. Let's get some sleep. Okay, Kat?" Casper said, plastering a strained smile on his face.

" Ok, if you need to talk to me, wake me up. Share and share alike" Kat giggled at her attempt at a late night joke, as she settled back under the covers, still unsure what to make of Casper sudden withdrawal. He never did that, he always talked about what was bothering him.

" I will." Casper leaned in and kissed Kat on the cheek, just as he did every night, since the night she told him that he could keep her.

But, he thought to himself, there are some things in life and in after life that he would never share with her. No matter how much he loved her.
