Back again with a one shot; Satoshi's musing about color.
Disclaimer: Unfortunately not mine...
White.
A simple thing, at first glance. A color, nothing more, nothing less. And black, a simple color as well. So why is it that such simple tangible things have been assigned to represent such a complex intangible notion? Why is white associated with goodness and black with evil? No, I guess that isn't really my question. I suppose my real question is this:
Why is white always good?
I wonder what a normal person, if such a thing exists, thinks of when they hear the word 'white'. Wings, snow, sugar? No one ever thinks of the bad things that are white I suppose. White wings and white snow can be bad, horrible even. I admit, I think of those things as well when I hear 'white', but not in the same state of mind. They hardly hold a positive meaning to me.
White wings… They are possibly the most negative thing I can come up with. Some less educated in the occult, as my peers would call it, might be foolish enough to think of angels. Ha. He's no angel. That Monster is no angel. To me, white wings are the single most oppressive symbol of which I can think. So much energy, so much time, has been spent on blocking him from my mind and concealing my thoughts from him, and that much more energy is required to keep it up. Transforming, or the risk thereof, is a constant worry at school. Or any other place I happen to run into Niwa. I wonder… how he feels, having to see his love every day as well. He has so much less control than I do…
White snow… So pure, the masses say, so beautiful. Pure! I'd laugh I were capable of such a thing. Pure is untouched; virgin skin marred with black, because of a 'purity'; it seems to be an oxymoron. How is that pure! How is that beautiful! Snow is frightfully cold, and many hold a desire to feel something other than that cold, stark numbness. Snow can be a very bad thing. Surely Niwa knows this, especially after his encounter with the 'Toki no Byoshin'. Beautiful things have a much easier time in disguising their danger than horrid things. He's beautiful (funny, one wouldn't think something called 'Monster' to be beautiful). Blatantly dangerous, he holds no regards for anything, even his health, solely focused on the destruction of his enemy. I just contradicted myself, didn't I? Ah well… I lost track of myself Where was I?
White sugar: sweet and good. People seem to forget that when one burns sugar, it becomes bitter and black like burnt skin. I find it amusing when idiot lovers tell one another how sweet they tasted, sweeter than sugar. I wonder what would happen if someone set them ablaze. Would they still taste sweet, or would they taste bitter like the sugar they so quickly compared themselves to?
Now the common 'good' white things have been proven wrong, I cite the 'bad' white things. Anthrax, a chemical that causes a deadly lung disease and effective illegal biological weapon, is usually found as a white powder. Maybe if you get enough of it, it might start to resemble snow. Death is symbolized as the color white. 'Wait!' the Western cultures cry, 'Wait! Wedding dresses are white, and weddings are good things!' Please. How many marriages turn out successful? How many make it past the first few years? Love is so fragile, devoid of meaning now and days.
To finish, take all the points brought against white and combine them into one picture. What did you get? I got a charred, coughing angel in a wedding dress, freezing to death in a snow-covered field. How pure! How beautiful! How good!
Really, I have no idea where this one came from, please don't ask. Satoshi's actually wondering why Krad's color is white if he's bad, if anyone missed that. I'm not sure I made that clear enough; all those references to 'that monster' and 'him' were talking about Krad. Anyways, review and tell me what you think!
