Jak woke in the middle of the night, an enraged, terrified scream ripping from between his lips and shattering the quiet night. Even as consciousness came over him he could feel the dark eco swirling and crackling in his veins. In a matter of seconds Jak was on his knees, horrible, splitting pain knifing through his body as he transformed into his darker self. Brightly colored lights flashed in front of his vision as his skin went from its normally deep tan to a pasty, sickly white. His green hair soon matched his skin and sharp claws were growing in place of his fingernails. For a moment, Jak couldn't breathe through the intense pain, then it was gone and he was only aware of rage.
His now completely black eyes took in the darkness of his room in the Governess's current residence without difficulty. With another roar, Jak began ripping the room to shreds, not even aware that he was doing anything wrong. All he could think of was the horrible anger running through his bloodstream, fueled by the dark eco. As his claws demolished the mattress and curtains, the bedposts and the desk, his body coiled tighter and tighter. Soon the intensity grew to be too much and he went swiftly down on one knee, immediately abandoning his rampage. A band of dark purple eco shot out in all directions from his body, further decimating his already trashed room. With that final blast of energy, the dark eco left him, receding to the shadowed corners of his mind, biding its time until it could reach out and take control again.
This time Jak's scream was hoarse as the pain came again. This time though, he was transformed back into his normal, everyday self. Instead of the intense anger of before, he was left completely drained, emotionally, mentally and physically. His breath coming in short, painful gasps, he eased himself down onto the cool stone floor and allowed himself to close his eyes. Just for a moment.
Right before he passed out, the door banged open and a women with bright red dredlocks strode in, a gun that Jak fuzzily recognized as a Vulcan Fury held out before her. The last thing he heard before he blacked out was Ashelin's startled cry of, "Jak!"
